Home Access Test

I took a Home Access Test and the results were negative.  But, my question is about whether I did it right or not.  It said to let the blood sit on the paper for 30 minutes to dry.  I was under the assumption that the virus died in open air.  Please explain this test to me.
Thank you,
Michelle

Home access test and all other ELISA tests are indirect tests, that is,they test for the presence of antibodies that are formed in response to HIV infection. Direct detection of the virus is very expensive and rarely done.
It does not matter whether the blood dries or not, if there are antibodies, they will be detected by appropriate tests such as [Home Access] ELISA.
