Is 1st gen in my no chromatography test conclusive at 5 months and 1 week? plz do reply I'm worried sick
I apologize if I have somehow offended you Teak. That is not at all my intention. I am just trying to provide information to the initial question of test generations. The following document provides the generation of various test solutions approved for use in the US (tables on pages 7 and 10):
http://www.hptn.org/web%20documents/HPTN065/LabWebinar/065comboLabWebinar.pdf
In both tables, the OraSure products are identified as Gen 2. I was very surprised when I found this link. I was sure OraSure was more advanced.
You guys trying to argue testing with Teak is ridiculous. He is an expert at all things testing related to HIV.
NO one should even be questioning clinics as to what gen test they use. Do you question your doctor or nurse about other types of tests? The HIV tests used today are sensitive and conclusive after 3 months, and that's all anyone needs to know. The only exception would possible be 3rd world countries, which even most of them have advanced with the times.
Move on.
Wrong. No, OraSure is not a 2nd generation test.
Actually, almost all rapid HIV tests in the USA are 2nd generation tests. Most centers (especially free clinics) use an oral rapid test. In the NE, those are usually Orasure Advance test kits which are 2nd generation.
I've been trying to find out why test sites only use Gen 2 in the US and have found no answers so far.
Does anybody know why they don't use 3rd gen more regularly here? I called over 20 test centers in the NE of US and absolutely none of them can provide a 3rd gen test.

In an adult, a positive HIV antibody test result means that the person is infected, a person with a negative or inconclusive result may be in the “window for 4 to 6 weeks but occasionally up to 3 months after HIV exposure. Persons at high risk who initially test negative should be retested 3 months after exposure to confirm results
They haven't had six months testing giudelines since 2004.
Your information is incorrect.
depends where you are from. 1st generation use viral lysate as antigen they are the standard micro bore method. its almost extinct even in third world countries. most tests used are 2nd generation and most are rapid tests. modern diagnostic centres use either 3rd generation or 4th generation. 4th generation tests use antigen detection in addition to antibody. these tests are supposed to reduce the window period by week or 2 and considered accurate from 4 to 6 weeks. after that there is a second window period when antigen become detectable till respective antibodies are formed which can take up to 3 months. and in extremely rare cases 6 months.
3 months post exposure is when you can get your conclusive result
The test?
Should i did one more test now?then wait more 3 month...get a test again...
Or wait more 3 month?

ALL HIV tests are conclusive 3 months post exposure.

They don't manufacture 1st and 2nd gerneration tests. They manufacture 3rd and 4th generation tests.
