How long does HIV survive in air?

I've read the archives and I'm confused... My therapist who is helping me deal with my HIV phobia says it dies within seconds. Is this true? Can Hiv that is still active infect someone through cuts on the hand that are the size of a pencil lead? Please answer???!!!! I posted previously about my "so-called exposure" at the hardware store... I'm really afraid! Could I get it from blood on a shelf at the hardware store with these tiny cuts (almost holes) on my hands if I touched the same place the wounded person touched?

Hi
i am doing my residency in oncology HIV one of  the most fragile virus ..infectious dose is high and not easy to transmit ..it need surface proteins to attach to co receptors on human cell for entry these proteins are susceptible to oxygen even it enter the blood circulation it can not enter the cell and dies with in hours ..as soon as virus exposed to free oxygen these proteins are no more functional ...
