How long does progression to AIDS take?

This is just something I'm curious about. It's not because I'm worried about having HIV or anything, it's just something I was wondering. Most of the information out there will tell you that after someone is infected with HIV and they have their initial ARS period, most people will go 10+ years without any symptoms at all before they progress to AIDS, even if they receive no treatment at all. Then again, I've seen Dr. HHH tell people that anyone who has had HIV for 7 years without any treatment would probably be either very sick or dead. So, regardless of some of the conservative information out there that tells us that an HIV-positive individual who receives no treatment will go 10+ years without symptoms, does anyone here know what the realistic timeline is? Thanks for the info?

If you are not concerned about it, why ask the question? I went 21 years without meds due to being a LTNP and when I was admitted into the hospital I had AIDS and an OI. Today with HAART, the chances of getting an AIDS classification is small and one will live to a long life span as long as they are consistent with their meds. Most will die of other causes unrelated to HIV.

Well I already have genital herpes, unfortunately. I used to have one night stands all the time and NEVER used a condom, so I deserved what I got. I've probably had unprotected sex with between 50-60 girls. Talk about stupid.

Seriously! But that doesn't mean you are resistant to other STDs!! So you still gotta be careful either way!

"Did you know that there are also people out there with a gene which makes them resistant to most strains of HIV!"

Man, why couldn't I have been born with that gene? ;)

That is quite a lot of women! I have zero STD's and I had unprotected sex 5 times with one guy...no ejaculation inside and four years after the all that I have convinced myself that I have HIV. Med school has turned me into a hypochondriac!

It all depends on your viral loads and extent to which your immune system is broken down. As a medical student I was taught that in severely immunocompromised patients with other infections/disease in addition to HIV progression can happen as soon as 2 years. For others with low viral loads progression can take 10+ years. Also there is the case of nonprogressors who never progress to AIDS. So...yypically without medication the average is 7-10 years. LoL...don't know if that helped. Did you know that there are also people out there with a gene which makes them resistant to most strains of HIV! Its a complicated condition...
