How safe am I? Please Help

I had protected sex two times with two different sex workers around 2.5 months back. The condom remained intact and did not break. Now people have mentioned that having protected sex saves you from HIV infections. Many people say it is zero risk, many say it is tending to zero but might be some risk.

Can someone please let me know how safe am I. Assuming those sex workers had HIV am I really safe. I am scared to get tested.

Is there any reason why I should get tested. Can I not get tested and assume I am safe and lead a good life. Is protected sex a 100% guarantee that I wont get infected.

Please answer?

Given that you had protected sex, personally, I see no reason for you to test over these two events. You did the right thing, you wore a condom. Thus, you were protected from having contracted HIV, and many other STIs besides. Really, that's what condoms are for.

So, if you feel that you do want to be tested, just to set your mind at ease, go in today and just do it. Assuming that the events you described in your post are your only "risk" factors, any test that you receive is going to come up negative, as you did not have a risk at all.

Xhost is right. You protected yourself and were wise enough to use a condom. Having said that, please note that nothing can provide you an absolute 100% guarantee when it comes to penetrating sex, especially with high risk group people. Condom reduces your risk of getting infection very very significantly, almost next to zero, but not zero,,, Can anybody tell me with confidence that the risk in such situation is "an absolute zero"?

I agree with Xhost, you are going to get a "negative" test very positively, if you decide to go for it.

many doctors say its an absolute zero. Even doctor HHH says its zero. So I am not really sure. This doubt worries me. I dont want to get tested. Should I bother?

I did not have any intention to scare you. As I said, you are safe and well protected, as the risk was almost zero.Worries and anxiety could only be killed permanently by getting a test report of your own, with a word "negative" printed on it and you will get the same, if you decide to do so, I am very positive.

My statement was about using the term 100% guarantee. Even Durax would hasitate to offer such guarantee of one hundred percent.

i heard its tougher to transfer it to a male than to a female. is that true

Yes ! This is true, chances of transmission from female to male are lower than otherwise. But not "zero" LOL

they don't call it protection for nothing. Relax pal, you are absolutely HIV negative if that was your only questionable encounter. Just to give you an idea of how safe you are consider this: UNPROTECTED vaginal sex with an HIV positive person is estimated to have a transmission risk of only 1/2000. Pretty small huh? Feeling better now? Now here's the good news, your encounter was protected, and it was with a person you're not even sure has HIV. Now, what do you think your risk is?

can u pls stop this 'not zero' thing. The only reason why people like encounter can't seem to accept that they didnt have a real risk is because they keep hearing bout these talk bout 'there's a possibility'. Now let me ask you. Do you think that you'll get hit by lightning tomorrow? There's a possibility, right? But do you think you'll actually get hit? And there's even a bigger possibility of that happening than encounter getting hiv from the encounter he described.

This debate can not change my opinion. HIV transmission is not governed by probability and statistics. Just one "unprotected" exposure is enough to get the infection if sufficient amount of fluids are available during the contact. Do you think, anyone who is +ve today, got infection after having unprotected vaginal sex 2000 times with one partner ?  or after having unprotected sex with 2000 different partners? Dude, luck plays a bigger role than mathematics and numbers. So just keep your fingers crossed and pray for the best if you are at risk, rather than playing with numbers and possibilities

Condom protected sex is 99.99999999999% effective in avoiding HIV transmission.  Just like condoms are 99.99999999% effective in preventing pregnancy.  Nobody ever got HIV if a condom was used properly just like nobody ever got pregnant if a condom was used properly.  It just doesn't happen. Nobody can say 100% because we live in a world where legal consequences force us to be cautious.  Certainly you have been to a store and seen cleaning products that advertise "kills 99.99% of germs."  Do you really think the remaining .01 or .0000000000001 is worth worrying about?

"many doctors say its an absolute zero. Even doctor HHH says its zero. So I am not really sure."

what exactly are you not sure about?  you were not at risk.  If you do decide to test, expect only a negative

Thank you all for the inputs. I think I am feeling much better now.

the only time a condom is a risk is if the condom breaks. thats why they say even with a condom there is a risk! you said the condom didn't break so there is no risk over those instances.
