Is it possible?

Is it possible?

Is it possible to test negative at six months and be infected? I have tested negative at 26 weeks after unprotected vag sex but have just tested positive for CMV. My liver enzymes are currently double and I have been experiencing pain in my liver area. The doctor told me that the CMV was contracted around the same time as my risk incident. Can co-infection of CMV and HIV delay the testing process?

Can you expand or explain why this is not possible? I have every symptom, have had bronchitis three times in past 6 weeks, fever, major pain in my liver. I thought CMV was only symptomatic when the immune system was compromised by HIV?

Guess you don't know much about CMV.

I don't understand much about CMV I have to admit, only what I have been able to read about. I was under the assumption you did not get sick from CMV unless your immune system was compromised by HIV or Cancer.

And you don't have HIV.

You are certain that I don't have it and there is no need to see an infectious disease specialist for further testing?

There is no need if what you have posted is truthful.

What do you mean? I had unprotected vaginal sex one time 6 months ago. This is my only risk, but are there not examples of people who took over six months to seroconvert? Can CMV be considered a immune compromising condition?

No one take over 3 months unless you are undergoing chemyo, just had organ transplat or things of that nature where your immune system is destroyed thus no antibodies can be created for some time. And of those who need to test out to 6 months are told they have to because of there condition.

Thanks Vance, but I just found out about my CMV infection which occurred at the same time as the risk . Could this infection be immune compromising enough to delay the development of HIV antibodies?

Hiv testing at 3 month is conclusive.

the tests we have these days are so sensitive that they pick up 98% infections at 6weeks. and it may take upto 3 months max. i have read about issues it can take up to 6 months but as they stated above it is only relevant to people undergone cancer treatments, organ transplant and PEP etc. but even with the tests of today 6 month is not recommanded any more because of the sensitivity of the tests. and taking more tests after 3 months is just Anxieties of reading other stuff on the internet that are not true. if you think about the internet and other sites, some maybe be spiteful and write the wrong things to have a laff which is true there are sick minded people out there. and your thoughts about serconversion are irrational.

i rememeber this girl i knew said it can take 7 years to test positive for HIV, which is absolute crap. and she was adement its true untill she read the book where she got it from it said it may take some years for a sympton to show, not for testing. see how people can make mistakes, and this has been done on the internet and it spread like a house on fire. becuase millions of people would read it and it will spread.

and what ever you maybe suffering from is not HIV related. CMV might be something you suffered from before, but it didnt take affect until your anxiety levels rising high dropped your immune system level. and no this does not mean because of your depression its taken HIV antibodies time to produce.

CMV is a family to the Herpes Virus. like the cold sore on your mouth that everyone has had or Chicken Pox. it is not a Blood born virus, i reckon you could have easily contracted the CMV from anyone. or you could have had it for ages, but like i said before took effect because of this Anxiety about HIV, and you went unhealthy thinking day and night about and not doing the things that you use to do. CMV is nothing to worry about just be healthy and you will feel much better.

depending what site you go such as, Terrence Higgins trust, Medhelp, NHS Freedome health whom are professional and correct answers are supplied. every other site are going to have people whom do not have clue what they are on about.

i say move on and leave it behind. you have nothing to worry about. you have learnt your lesson so move on.

I appreciate the post , I will send you this link about the case of delayed seroconversion because of co infection with CMV. It seems to be from a reliable Medical source. I would move on if not for my liver issues, continued bronchitis and fevers. Tell me what you think about this article and why it should not pertain to my circumstances, thanks.

You have been told you have a conclusive result,  Even if you believe the link you posted (Not that I think it is true) that stated 4 months. You have a 6 month test result!!  You need to put this behind you and move on with your life.

This forum really has nothing more to add to this.

Kindly Move Along...
