Kaposi's sarcoma????

by farfromperfect, Aug 07, 2007 06:47PM
Hello.  I have developed a black spot on my leg that looks very strange.  At first I thought it was a dark freckle, but after picking at it a little I realized it was more like a scab that was under the skin.  It is very small, but it is scaring the **** out of me.  Does anyone know if this sounds  like Kaposis?

As far as i know if you are in the window period you wouldnt have that until you had AIDS. Someone can correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure that only happens when you have full blown AIDS.

KS is not AIDS specific. It was first described in 1872 and named after Dr. Moritz Kaposi . You can read up on it here.

You see, I am in a bit of panic mode here.  It has crossed my mind that maybe I am one of those who does not make antibodies.  I tested way beyond the three month recomendation and still negative.  It seems that anyone would have been producing detectable antibodies by 140 days post exposure, but I still tested negative.  Now I fear that I don't have antibodies and I am progressing to AIDS extremely fast.  That is wy I am worried that this may be KS.  I know logically that this is crazy, but I just can't shake the what ifs.  I test again this week, and I am extremely scared.  I feel like all of the other tests I took were just like training for this one.  I feel like this is the bing one that is going to take me down.  :(

I totally understand your panick, I myself am at 18 weeks and need to test again after 6 week 1 day neg.(which i will) . But listen you have tested out way past window period . if i were you i would go see a dermatoligist to see what the spot is:) im sure you dont have it . I wish you the best of luck, you will be fine just get that spot checked out by a skin doctor OK?

Its far more likely to be melanoma, ffp.  Don't mess around, go see a dermatologist.

Does it sound like melanoma?  Why would it show up in an area that hardly ever gets sun?  Im scared, and the lymphy in my wife's neck is bigger now.  I am freaking so bad that I have some kind of immune problem and will be a late seroconverter.  My God, this is awful.

I can't get her to have any concern at all.  She is definitely not a hypochondriac.  It is not that big, it is just visible when she bends her head to the side.  Its not huge, its just obviously swollen, and she feels absolutely fine which makes it worse.  I could understand if she had a cold or something.

The thing on my leg is very small.  Nowhere near as big as an eraser, but it just came up out of nowhere, and I beilieve I had a similar one on my stomach but it was a while back and I don't remember exactly what it looked like.  If it were a blood blister wouldnt that signify autoimmune problems?

On a lighter note,  I miss you peek.  I am so glad to hear from you again.

I'm not back.  I only came back to answer you.

Relax.  You don't have HIV.  I was just pointing out that there are far more common things to worry about.

In general, if you have a change in a mole, or a suspicious spot shows up that is bigger than a pencil eraser, you should show it to your doctor.  Melanoma can show up anywhere, as can other types of skin cancers.  It could also just be a small blood blister.

You are freaking out over nothing.  If your immune system were so seriously damaged that you didn't make antibodies, you'd be very ill.  It wouldn't be subtle.

You're seeking that "high", far.  That relief you feel when you get a negative test.  Thats what you're after.

Why has your wife not gone to the doctor about the node?  My god, it must be as big as a tennis ball to freak you out like this.  Does she not worry about cancer?
