Lab test question

by xpo, Apr 23, 2007 12:00AM
I'm a little concerned about a possible HIV infection. I went to the doctor the other day for something else (stomach pain) and they did a blood test. When the blood test came back they said that the results were great and I was fine. If I have HIV (it's been a year since the sex) would it have shown up on a generic blood test?

No it would not because a regular blood test does not look for hiv antibodies. Only an hiv test would do so

if your sex was unprotected,
do a standard antibody HIV test, ELISA.

other blood tests are not meant for HIV testing
