Left tonsil stabbing burning pain

by bluebell81, Jul 19, 2007 03:48PM
I just tried to eat my first solid food in three days. It was a soft banana and i chewed it to a fine pulp before attempting to swallow it. As it went past my left tonsil which hurts more than my right, I actually winced because it felt like there are raw lesions on it. Now it feels like a needle is stabbing me over and over again in that part of the tonsil that the banana touched.

Now I am wondering if I have oral herpes. If so, do they attack the tonsils?

Here is a link as to what my tonsils look like. Tell me if you think it is mono, ARS, or herpes. Thank you.

I had the exact same thing. I went to the doctor. It was caused by mono. So is yours. When will you accept this?

by bluebell81, Jul 19, 2007 04:12PM
I am almost certain its not oral herpes. I looked at images of them and they appear on your lips and tongue.

The reason I think my tonsils might be herpes is that it feels like a burning lesion is on them. I wonder what those white pustuls are? Are they lesions filled with fluid?

You actually had mono during your HIV scare?

I didnt know that. I am glad I am not the only one, I have been terrified.

How many times have I told you I had mono as well? I thought it was ARS also, and it scared the **** out of me. Then I went to the doctor, tested positive for mono, and he assured me that the white spotted sore throat was characteristic of mono, and that if it were to due to ARS, I would just have a sore throat with no white lesions. This is a one very decisive way to differentiate between mono and ARS. I hope you will finally understand and believe this.

YOu are lucky to have gone to a dr that actually knew what ARS meant.

I had to see a physican's assisant. She had no clue what ARS meant and told me to get tested for HIV in 6 months to a year. I couldnt even ask her the question about white tonsils. Which is why I am constantly on these forums posting about them.

Might I ask what your risk was for HIV?

I had unprotected sex with between 60-70 girls.

Are you a pornstar? How old are you/

I'm 25. No, not a pornstar. I just went on a one night stand binge starting around the age of 18. I was a complete idiot.

Well it is certainly good to hear you are negative.

Sometimes we need a good scare to help us change our ways.

I pray all I am going thru is a scare and from now on I am going to change.

I have or have had just about every other STD you can get... Genital herpes, chlamydia, pubic lice, genital warts.... not HIV though. I was pretty stupid. I am smarter now of course, I just wish I would have learned sooner.

by Jaguar83, Jul 19, 2007 05:18PM
60-70 girls????? Daaaaamn, son. You must be tired. Have you had GTongue or tiny red spots or floaters out of the corners of your eyes?

I'm probably just lucky to still have my penis in place. I would have thought it would have fallen off after all those unprotected encounters. Live and learn I guess.

Finding out I had genital herpes is actually what did it. But the HIV scare certainly woke me up as well.

I don't know, because I haven't read your posts. Care to fill me in?

by Jaguar83, Jul 19, 2007 05:57PM
Ya, outta curiosity, what scared you straight? Was it this?

My exposure was on april 11, had unprotected sex and contracted chlamydia, got tested 6 wks, 8wks, 12wks - all negative

Tested lastly on July 16, negative

I'm experiencing some symptoms "down there" but all the tests are coming back negative when the GYN does cultures, HIV is my worst fear now, i'm correlating it to everything going on.

What troubles have you had with herpes 2

To: bigdummy
The first couple years I had it I had lots of annoying outbreaks, it's gotten much better though. My immune system seems to keep the infection supressed most of the time. I hardly ever think about it anymore.

You have no reason to worry about HIV. 8 weeks was 100% proof you don't have it. 12 weeks was just overkill.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get that information from?

From what I've seen Dr. HHH say 10 million times. He would tell you the same thing.

You said that your Doctor told you that a good way to differenciate between Mono and ARS is the white spots on the tonsils. So you mean to say that if I had a sore throat with white pus dots on the tonsil then it was Mono?? If that were the cause I would be so relieved!

by bluebell81, Jul 19, 2007 08:11PM
To: collegegirl
Go to your student health clinic and ask for a mono test!

They can tell you that day or the next if its mono.

Do you feel extremeley tired? The sore throat would be one of the worst of your life.

It could also be tonsilitis.

If i was you i'd get it checked out for peace of mind (but who am I to talk because I was diagnosed with mono last week and I dont believe the dr and think its ARS)

What the doctor told me is that since mono and ARS symptoms are so closely related, many people who get mono freak out and think they've been infected with HIV. But, he said, there are clues to look for which can help you differentiate between the two. He then told me that both ARS and mono cause a sore throat, but a sore throat in mono is usually "exudate" which means white spots or pus on the tonsils. The sore throat associated with ARS, however, does not cause white pus spots on the throat. Therefore, if you have white pus spots on your tonsils, that's a pretty sure sign that it's not ARS.

by collegegirrl, Jul 20, 2007 01:03AM
oh wow that really takes a lot off my shoulders. because when i had a sore throat it was for about 5 days and the little white pus dots on it were there for about 3 days. maybe i have mono. or hopefully some other non-life threatning sickness. i mean it was a pretty bad sore throat, and i HAVE been really abnormally tired, but i dont know if it's from stress or from something else? maybe i should get tested for mono.....

by imworried5454, Jul 20, 2007 03:55AM
wow I have sore throat without white stuff :(

by kimoz, Jul 20, 2007 06:32AM
I don't have sore throat but I have got a small white dot on my tonsil :(

by alone and scared, Jul 20, 2007 01:33PM
It has been a few days since I last logged on.  You all are having a good dialogue.  I have to get back to work, but I would like to see this dialogue continue.  I have a few questions of my own.  I will be back.
