Lost

Ok, now this crap makes no sense, someone see if they understand why Im having trouble understanding this stupid info about this Oraquick test, Im not saying the test is stupid because I've practcally done it 3 times and I'm trusting my status and life with it, but check this out; If it has a 1 out of 12 false negative rate, then why the hell do they sell it? and Why the hell do people say a false positive is more likely even though the percentages of that happening are quite lower than negative?I had unsafe sex with a high risk girl very briefly and then I withdrew , Ive been tested using oraquick at 10 and 12 weeks after and all negative, on forums and stuff I've seen terrible posts of the test not picking up the antibodies well after the window period but people are saying 8 weeks after exposure in nearly certain of you negative result with THIS test. So basically im very lost, any input? thanks for your time, Also would the Year have anything to do with it? In 2014 would oraquick have improved the performance of these tests,It really scared me when I saw where a gay guy was like 4 months post exposure and went to get tested and they used oraquick TWICE and it just wouldnt detect the aintibodies??? Till they used a blood sample!!!, and How do people know "most people test positive within 6 weeks" I have never seen anything where ANYBODY test pos on an oraquick within even 8 weeks...which scared me alot more, and since they say after seroconversion illness you should have no symptoms for years why do these people infected get awfully sick and all that.. ,
ps. even the doctors here say at 8 weeks these tests are virtually conclusive.

OK thanks for all the info you guys, I really appreciate it, so would it be safe to try and conieve with my gf or get tested by blood? My counselor has told me no more testing is neccessary. But I have an erie feeling that oraquicks are false and dont catch things that a blood test will, even though I have had really good reassurance, even my cousin who is in Medical School at UNC who is very conservative said even if I had taken only one at 8 weeks, HE wouldn'tve been worrieed anymore but I still have severe anxiety, also my counselor told me that in order for hiv to transmit there must be almost precise conditions for this to happen, I've heard bruises, cuts, ulcers, on penis head would allow, but I know it can enter through the urethra, but my concluding question is: Are these tests reliable enough to eliminate all worries I may have of contracting HIV so I can take the next step in my life with my partner

We would consider you negative from a 12 week test.

They're saying that approx 1 out of 12 INFECTED people may get a false positive, which really, would result from them probably testing too soon.

What you have to remember is, that while Oraquick tests are a nice option, they don't replace real, in person medical care.  There's always the option to get tested in a clinic.

I think you're worrying about nothing.

Can you sort of break that down im so sorry to seem so unintelligent but ever since my exposure I've been obsessing and im very new to the testing and all, and would you trust the results if you were me that ive shared with you above? These were done at a clinic.

What it does is rules out people not infected, people who are infected will either be positive or show as an invalid test.

And this if from the FDA Website, even the people who make it say this, but its contradicting because it claims to have 99.98 specifity meaning the negative results are extremely accurate, so how do we get this??

How reliable is the OraQuick In-Home HIV Test?

As noted in the package insert, clinical studies have shown that the OraQuick In-Home HIV Test has an expected performance of approximately 92% for test sensitivity (i.e., the percentage of results that will be positive when HIV is present). This means that one false negative result would be expected out of every 12 test results in HIV infected individuals. The clinical studies also showed that the OraQuick In-Home HIV Test has an expected performance of 99.98% for test specificity (i.e., the percentage of results that will be negative when HIV is not present). This means that one false positive result would be expected out of every 5,000 test results in uninfected individuals.

It is extremely important for those who self-test using the OraQuick In-Home HIV Test to carefully read and follow all labeled directions. Even when used according to the labeled directions, there will be some false negative results and a small number of false positive results. The OraQuick test package contains step-by-step instructions, and there is also an OraQuick Consumer Support Center to assist users in the testing process.

Never heard 1 out of 12...with that rate it would not be on the market. Where did you hear/read that nonsense?
