Low grade fever...eeep

Low grade fever...eeep

Hello. I'm a female, aged 21, and I posted about 2 weeks ago saying I was worried about hiv and talking about oral sex risks. I got an hiv antibody test on December 4th, so I know I'm hiv free as of September 4, 2006. However, in November (around the beginning) I had unprotected oral sex (he didn't ejaculate) and I've had a low grade fever for 3 weeks (98.8 - 99.3) and slight pharyngitis. Could this be ARS or is it possibly something bacterial like chlamydia? Does chlamydia/gonorrhea have a fever associated with it?

Thank you.

Everyones body temp changes throughout the day.  If you check it in the morning you will be low, evening high, and in the middle of the night, very low.  Anxiety can either increase or decrease temp too.  I am talking a swing from between 96.5 and 99.5.  A fever isn't present unless you are over 38 degrees C. or 100.4 degrees F.

You are going to be O.K.

Hello collegegirl,

Given the temperature range that you have described, I find myself agreeing with the other posters: you have yet to have a fever. As one poster so astutely pointed out, your body temperature will range from 97.x to 99.x, all in the same day, every day.

When I was going through my own HIV anxiety, I was checking temperature 5 times a day, and I was sure when I took the therm. out of my mouth and it read 99.5 that, uh oh, here comes the fever. Of course, when I explained this to my doctor, he patiently sat me down and explained why I didn't have a fever. I was surprised, to say the least. And encouraged. And you should be too.

Be well,

A normal body temperature is between 97.6-99.6.  Everyone is a little different and they just say 98.6 is the average.

It is very rare for chlamydia to be transmitted via oral.  I would put that out of my head if I were you.  You can forget this incident.  You don't have hiv or chlamydia.  Happy Holidays!
