Mass and other window periods - comments encouraged

I posted this question in the HIV Prevention forum as well, in hope of getting an answer off Dr HHH

Hi Guys

I am looking for opinions on the mass. and now some parts of australia guidelines for 6 week window period.

As said previously 6 weeks is the window period in the CYA statements on Mass. and some Australian HIV test results - in australia usually ag/ab tests.

do you all agree?  Like what if people do walk around with the 6 week piece of paper and are positive, i know the doc has said inemerable times 6 weeks is close to 100% but what is close... 95%, 98%, 99% or 99.999% ?

could this be in fact contributing to the spread of HIV ?  Im not trying to highten anyones fears but im am trying to be realistic...

maybe it should be 8 or 10 weeks or even 3 months.

I know i got tested at 11 weeks and although most of you (including the doc think that is conclusive) and the peice of paper does say 6 weeks.. what if people like me  do convert within 11-12 weeks....or later

does this open up legal avenues for people who become infected.. does this give people false reassurance.

Any reply or comments (as long as they dont call me insane) are encouraged.

I think this is a legitimate question.

I would like an answer to this question aswell, I just got my 6 week test back Negative ...I dont know what type of test they did though, I live in Ontario in Canada ...I dont think they would be using old tech but I have no idea .....I also read on here that it doesnt matter what generation it is ...6 weeks is pretty much conclusive?

Is that true? I would really like the lowdown on the 6 week test myself and if generation matters or not?

Thanks

yeah that is kind of scary to me the way it read.  i thought a while back when they changed it to six weeks that it would state something to the effect of "majority of the population six weeks will be conclusive, etc" but the way it is wrote does not imply that at all to me?  It kind of sounds like what your regular doctor would tell you when you explain your HIV fear to them. I am interested to see some comments on this.

I have been searching through threads on this site for days and I have seen the DOC on many many posts say that 6 weeks is all you need these days, I also seen him say that even in the 1980's most poeple would test positive really early like the first 3 weeks.

I have just gotten back my six week test after having protected vaginal sex with a sex worker and it came back NEGATIVE, since I dont even know if she had HIV + I was protected + I had a six week NEGATIVE. I know I dont have HIV. Im done with searching and testing and reading about it, all thats doing is making me think what if what if and making things worse.

This site is GREAT at helping you through your time till you test ..but once you've tested NEGATIVE its time to move on with your life and stop visiting the site all together. otherwise your gonna drive yourself crazy with what ifs and stats.

Thanks to everyone for all your help, I wish everyone here the best of luck.

Im out ....Be safe guys and God Bless.

Sounds more like they also trying to cover their behind as well. That's the trend it seems.

What's In - Granny's undies
What's Out - thongs(well, they been out way long)

Why are we all hung up on this 6 week thing???????? Its been said on this site MANY MANY MANY MANY times that 6 weeks the results are like 99%

Not only that the Doc has said that he has never seen anyone test Negative at 6 weeks go on to test positive EVER!

Not gonna happen ....we all need to move on with our lives.

That being said, I need to take my own advice :)
