Mono and HIV

Hello all,

I had unprotected sex with someone 3 weeks ago.

I was diagnosed with mono a week ago.

I would like to know if HIV (ARS) can produce a false positive mono test.  The test only looks for an increase in lymphocytes after all.

I would also like to know if the other way around, a mono can cause a false positive HIV test.

Every hiv hotline I called from my scare and my doctors say they have never heard that. I was scared about it and saw it mentioned on google. Worst thing you can do is lookup symptoms trust me. Nothing you can do but test after three months. I had a positive monospot at 4 months 3 weeks after my exposure, a week after a negative hiv result. I also did an hiv test at 6 months. Just test at 3 months. As for now you have mono.

My doctor disagrees.

Do you know if mono and HIV test cross react, or not?

My doctor wants me to come in and test at 4 weeks.

Do both tests cross react or not?

In three months the test would be correct.

You can test 3 months post exposure to obtain a conclusive result.
