NEED ADVICE...

by igorp, Oct 14, 2009 03:00AM
Hello doctor,
Thank you for help and providing this great service...
Now,my question:I m from Croatia, and I was with girl 10 days ago,I dont know her very well, she doesn't use condoms at all,(she told me that)and because of that-for me she is high-risk person for Hiv and other STD.
She is sexually active for over 8 years, and that night I used a condom, and our sex lasted for about 2 min's,but maybe less... During our activity,I checked up my condom,but... before my finish I noticed that (when pull out penis to cum) condom broke between head of penis and pillar-(body) of the penis.According to my knowledge I was unprotected for about 1min or 30 seconds, but probably less than that. She assured me that she s clean, but I didnt believe nobody, and I asked her to do an HIV test if she want. She did it and it came back negative 2 days after my accident, and I saw it personally. She told me she had 2 partners 3 weeks before our sexy night... Is this high risk event!?What is my odds? Im not concerned a lot,but it is on my mind sometimes... ALL THE BEST,THANK YOU...AND WAITING FOR RESPONSE!!

Welcome to the Forum.  I congratulate you on asking your partner about her status and using a condom. Those are both things that will very much reduce your risk for getting HIV or other STDs.  Condoms do however sometimes fail.

In your case, you can be confident that you were not exposed to HIV from your partner.  Her negative test effectively proves that.   While there is a theoretical possibility that she could be in the process of seroconverting that really is just not a realistic or practical possibility and should not be a concern. The event is too rare for it to be happening at just the time you were with her.  I would not worry about HIV in this situation.  You may wish to get checked for other STDs at some point however, again just to be on the safe side.  Give the information that you have provided it is more likely that she had a more typical STD like chlamydia than anything else.

I hope this comment is helpful.  You really have little to worry about. EWH

THANK you very much for your quick response...
I ALWAYS use condoms, but somethimes they put us in such a risk...I suggested her to do test because she is a relly good girl and she told me about her sexual history and that she never got tested (and never used condoms)!she is from Montenegro also,Podgorica...Think she can now understand how her risk of getting some STD was.Maybe I did good thing for her:)
Honestly,it is much easier for me now to think about Hiv after her negative results, but you never know...
For notice,I m sure thad head of my penis were exposed, because when I pulled out from her,it was recovered.I tried to get some piece of mind, real evaluaion of my risk on this place...and I got it now!I m calm now...
Am I overeacting in this?Is this event low risk exposure or does it require HIV testing??
What is your experience telling you about failed condoms?
As I realised from your response,I can be very confident that I did not cought HIV?
Thanks a lot again...

You do not need further testing for this exposure for any medical reason.  If you need to be tested for your own peace of mind that is a different thing. EWH

My last question doctor...
Do you think that brief exposure can reduce hiv transmision??Is it true that Hiv is not so easy to transmit, especially from hiv poz.female to male?(if that so easy like tv and some source says, we would have at least 100 millions dead people so far...)
I read somewhere that for HIV transmission is crucial  to match many factors such as lenght of sex,and it is need to be a bit rougher sex...and greater exposure of body fluids...etc??
ALL THE BEST!!

Last answer.  While there have not been studies of this (how could there be), it is logical to think that the longer an exposure, if a partner is infected, the more likely it is that HIV transmission will occur.  EWH

I hope that you will not be difficult to answer me again...
Definitive last question...!(I promise)
What did you mean when you said:"no further testing"?
Thank you again...

No further testing means that you do not need any more testing for HIV related to the exposure you describe.  EWH

Ok,doc, but the reason I asked you that is because I havent done any HIV tests so far, never, and I didnt have risk exposure (except this event) which is by your professional opinion is not that risky for HIV test...
A m I right?
Goodbye,All the best...

Sorry...
THANK YOU FROM THE HEART...

Dear doctor,still waiting your response...
-Sorry for being hard and boring...

There is no medical reason for HIV testing related to the exposure you describe.  Take care.  EWH
