can remain active in blood outside the needle (not inside the hollow part but outside it) they did a blood test n thn immediately took the blood outside the needle (which kind of stick on the outer surface of the needle)and did a blood test for PCR and antibody.though at first the test turned positve very weakely but the second time it was negative and they concluded tht hiv
is an extremely fragile virus n starts deactivating almost immediately as soon as exposed in air.
Now my question is tht if they above survey is true then how come so many people got hiv
(they did it with the vacumm container n tht holder stuff) as soon as the nurse drew my blood I asked her for the holder n tilted the needle upside down but no drops of blood came on my hand,in fact I even shook it real hard still no blood came out from the needle on to my hand.
Pls can sum1 clarify why is this so?
How come sum1 gets hiv frm needle ***** n many say that u cannot get hiv when ur having a blood test becoz the blood is drwan n nothing is being injected.
Pls clarify.I hope this will help many here.
ThanX.
Like teak said...that is not true. Actually...very very very few occupational exposures result in infection...and the ones that have in the past involve a LARGE amount of blood being introduced immediately, as in an OR scenario with a scalpel or other large sharp instrument. The blood that would be present on the surface of a needle would not be sufficient to cause transmission, especially in a superficial skin injury situation.
You are thinking more of people who become infected when sharing IV drug works. The reason there is a risk with that is b/c the blood basically stays "preserved" so to speak in the bore of the needle (not exposed to air), and then the next user injects that blood directly into the bloodstream.
thanx for ur advice... and thanx teak too for ur advice.
just i wanna confirm from nursegirl & teak ... that in a situation where my blood was drawn and IF the needle was soiled or used before me... then is there any chance i can be infected?
just a few info i wanna share with u before u comment..
1) 99.9 % sure i was the first patient for the day at the clinic....
2) IF i was not the first patient then Atleast i am sure that the Last patient that came before me for a blood test ... had gone atleast 15 minutes back..
3) as he was inserting the needle in me.... i saw the needle and it looked clean to me......and i saw no blood etc...
4) They use the Vacuum container and that holder for a blood draw and NOT a syringe.
5) i had a hiv blood test after this too ... for calming my fears of re use of needle... i did that test 5.2 weeks after this test...it was negative....(i know u will ask that didnt i get scared the last time too... my answer is NO .. becoz i personally selected a fresh needle and asked him to put that on the holder...)
