Ongoing symptoms. Anyone please help me

by riley11, Dec 15, 2007 11:11AM
Hi,

I just found this website and was hoping for some support.  I had an unprotected exposure about 14 months ago and was tested 2 months after and then again 4 months after through the ELISA test. Both came back negative. I was tested just about a year ago so was that considered the 3rd generation test or did they just come out with it a few months ago? I want to make sure I am considered conclusive.
The reason I am still worried is because I have had a chronic sore throat that comes and goes (sometimes around stressful times) and its only on my left side of my throat where my tonsil is slightly bigger than the other tonsil.  Should I worry that this can be related to HIV or does it sound like it can be?  Thank you for all that help me.

You have to have HIV to relate your symptoms to HIV, which you don't. You have test conclusively negative. See a doctor for your concern.

I'm not a doctor and you can't be diagnosed over the Internet.

I just read your profile.  I am very sorry about your unfortunate diagnosis with AIDS. did you ever have a problem with your throat like I explained that I do?  Thank you for your help in this forum

I am sorry if I sound irrational. I am just scared because I am only a 21 year old female and do not want to have to deal with this when i am trying to finish college. But, thank you for your support.

A negative test four months after your exposure means you don't have HIV infection - a negative test at 12 weeks after exposure is considered to be conclusive, so your test was after this period. Don't got by your symptoms - your test result was negative. A sore throat is just a sore throat - your don't HIV, so it can't be related.
