Your PCR tests are not diagnostic tests. They are screening tests, which have to be followed up with an antibody test. PCR test are known due to their sensitivity to give false positives. Just wait, take your antibody test a the appropriate time and be done with it.
"HIV AG/AB and P24 antigen combo test" by CMIA method in India
this involves a elisa test or just a simple test??
What do you think my odds are after having a negative test at 8.5 weeks?
You should be fine, 8.5 weeks negative changing ahead is very unlikely, chip in there for the 12 week's negative.
Would an RNA test be more reliable?
hi where did u get your p24 test at what lab thanks
Not necessarily, you have to give the body enough time to produce antibodies that can be dectected by the tests. Not every body produces antibodies at the same rate. That is the reason for the 3 month conclusive test.
I had an 8.5 week test which was negative and was hoping to put this behind by doing the DUO test now. If the P24 becomes undetectable when the body produces enough antibodies, wouldn't the antibody test then show positive?
The P24 is good for apx 3 weeks from time of infection. When one starts to produce antibodies the P24 becomes undetected. The antibodies will be detected as soon as there are enough for the tests to detect. Test at 6 weeks if you like and then again at 12/13 weeks for a confirmative result.
Can you please comment on the accuracy of these combined tests.
Thanks!
It is for Dr. HHH. For most cases he'd recomment an elisa test only at 6-8 weeks. The guys at aidsmeds and the body.com would wait until 13 weeks. I'm not sure if the P24 is valid at 61 days I'm sure Teak knows more about that.
