Are you referring to the window period regarding ARS or when peripheral neuropathy is identifiable? She works on a floor at the hospital that deals with individuals with that have later stages of HIV disease. She never sees anyone going through seroconversion b/c she is not an ER nurse. Of course she never gives out personal information but she did comment that she had an HIV patient whom was experiencing severe PN, to the point he was almost crying with it. The doctor told her it was difficult to ascertain the cause of the problem but he was leaning towards the meds that the indiviudal was taking as he had been on meds for several years. The doctor stated that since the patient had not progressed to AIDS he doubted if it was a cause of the HIV itself.
Of course this was his opinion.
A lot of the AIDS/Advanced HIV patients do not complain about neuropathy at all she (nurse) said. The individual I referenced above was into drugs and she believed that he was exagerrating his symptoms to continue his morphine drip.
Kudos for the informative answer!
I empathize with your situation.
What does your g/f believe the window period to be?
Guys and Gals,
I've been where you are. Peripheral Neuropathy, certain I had it.
Problem; PN very like the pins and needles you get when your suffering from chronic anxiety, coupled with the odd anecdotal piece of evidence that PN can be part of ARS.
Solution; think about it rationally. The experts say PN is almost exclusively attributable to either late stage HIV infection or side effects from HIV meds. Considering that pins and needles and foot pain are DEFINITE symptoms of anxiety, I think you all have your answers.
And just to top it all off, every single person I've seen on here that has complained of 'peripheral neuropathy' has ulitmately tested negative.
I am about 8 1/2 weeks past an exposure that I am concerned about too. Without getting into all of the symptoms I have encountered I will comment on the one question at hand here, PN. For about the past 6 days to week I have noticed sensations all over my body that feel like little cold droplets of water hitting my skin. These will take place on arms, buttocks, legs, feet, hands, pretty much everywhere. It does not take place constantly just maybe one little "droplet of cold water" somewhere on my body once every half hour to hour. I do not have any pain at this point.
Long story short....unprotected sex with a girl of unknown status. Saw her next day, kind of scary if you know what I mean, very skinny and poor dental hygeine.
To my point... i leveled with my fiance with what I did. She is a Registered Nurse at a hospital that deals with infectios diseases, including HIV and AIDS patients. She stated that Peripheral Neuropathy is MOSTLY attributed to HIV/AIDS meds. And if not, it is only seen in advanced HIV disease where there are many other accompanying symptoms of the later staged virus.
She works along side many HIV specialists.
Hope this helps somewhat. It has put my mind at ease some.
(Oh, by the way, Dr. H.H.H says the same thing too.) take it and run.
Nope, peripheral neuropathy has nothing to do with ARS
It is a late HIV / advance AIDS symptom
or side effects of HIV drugs
you tested negative at the 9th week, it's reliable
