Petrified

Ok, I am really scared.

For 4 weeks now i have had a tight throat and difficulty swallowing. After the 3rd week I went to get it checked out and the ENT found a growth in my post nasal cavity. For the past week I have been really concerned that I may have cancer. Tonight my concern changed - and i am even more scared. The past week i have been nausea's, and have had no appetite, as well having slightly larger lymph nodes. I had been presuming this was because of worry - as it only came on the day after i found out about the growth.

I heard something about HIV on the radio tonight however and it all seems to make sense. In the middle of last year I made a big mistake and had oral sex on a girl ONCE. I know some of you say there is no chance of catching HIV from that - but roughly a month after that i had a few days of bad fever etc. And now this throat, nausea problem one year on. Im pretty sure I remember licking 'juices' off the girl that were more mucusy than normal vaginal juices.

Can i please have peoples opinions as to what they think? I will have an HIV test today but will have to wait a week to get results.. and i dont know if i can handle the stress (worrying about maybe cancer also) for the next week.

I am so scared for myself and my wife... Have i ruined both our lives from one mistake?

No, again saliva has enzymes that break down HIV and you still would not have had a risk.

WHat do you guys know about any sort of ulcer being in the mouth while having oral sex on a girl with fluids entering your mouth? Would this up the chances of getting it much more, if there was still nothing bleeding?

The oral rapid tests are not saliva tests. They draw antibodies out of the tissue of the gums and cheek. Oral mucosal transudate

Hey aussie..Aussie....Aussie..(do I hear Oye Oye Oye?)    I used to live in Sydney for a while and I found out that Australia had one of the best STD clinics in the world. It is true that its difficult to find a center that does a rapid test. Also, te Australian Aids Council has rejected the rapid saliva test so you hae to go for a finger ***** blood test.
Having said that, You DID NOT have a risk to begin with. rest easy and the above info i gave was only for educational purposes.
cheers mate

So what could this latest bout of problems be??

ARS is always around 2-4 weeks post exposure.  That's what "acute" means.

My recent swollen lymph nodes in my neck (not groin or under arm) arent really sore and come and go a bit....  something which i think isnt a very good sign.

and maybe my symptoms now are more related to stress/ or a tumour

yeah i'm getting the idea that coincidence plays a major role in all of the peoples problems on this forum.  we all have possible expsosures....then a few weeks later get weird symptoms.

I had an oral exposure too, only I gave oral to a guy...no ejaculate or anything.  But I definitely know what you are going through :)  you aren't alone.

ahh ok.. so its nothing i dont already know about.

i guess the odds are with me.

She says she is clean (had a test in feb)

And all that happened was me giving her oral - something that everyone says will not cause HIV to spread.

Maybe my flu was a coincidence last year

So is ARS a good or bad thing? Should i ask for another test that will tell me if i have that? Will the doctor know if i have it once he looks at the normal HIV test results?

I currently have on and off again slight swelling of lymph nodes with not much pain, and i had a 2 day fever 4 weeks ago. And a few weeks after the oral sex last year i had a bad head cold and fever.

But it was oral sex on a girl.... please keep telling me that it is impossible for me to have caught anything?

Also, this girl says she is clear - could that just be for HIV - but she still had ARS?

aussie,

ARS is basically what happens to you when you get infected HIV.  It's your bodys reaction to the infection...you get fever, flu like symptoms...etc.

most people generally get ARS symptoms around 2-4 weeks.

so yeah...it's a bad thing.

don't stress though, and good luck :)

So let me get this straight - to have ARS you have to have HIV??
