Piercing with sewing needle - HIV risk

Piercing with sewing needle - HIV risk

First of, thanks for the amazing work you do here in this website... I've been an avid reader for a long time, and every time I mess up I come back...

This time I'm too worried about last night. I was drinking with 2 friends, one of them a female that likes to pierce and has lots of piercings, and her partner, a friend of mine...

Anyways, I had been asking her to get me pierced for a while, and last night while drunk, I asked her to pierce me... her friend asked her as well.... she didn't have any tools with her, so she used a sewing needle, first on him and then on me.... she was using  isopropyl alcohol to clean the needle... She wasn't using gloves, and when she pierced me I started bleeding a lot...

I hope my question isn't too stupid, but based on the facts, how much risk I took by piercing myself after this guy got pierced, if in fact he is HIV positive? The needle was in alcohol at all times after she pierced him, and she pierced me at about 15 minutes after she pierced him...

I'm worried and scared, this guy she pierced first doesn't look too healthy and he may be very promiscuous... Please help, let me know if I need to get tested and how long I have to wait to do so... Any other suggestions?

Thanks so much...

Sounds like a non risk, as long as there was no visible blood on the needle, which there wouldnt have been if she had wiped it and soaked it in alcohol, which would have further reduced the already very low chances. There is very few, if any sharp instrument tranmissions outside of needle sharing and occupational exposures I believe, or thats what I think has been said on ehre before anyway.

Goodluck in your future endevours!

Sounds pretty innocent. If you are such a worrier, why would you put yourself in this type of preventable situation. A person who can't swim doesn't jump into the deepend of a pool, a person scared of heights doesn't mountain climb, and a person scared of hiv doesn't let someone pierce their ear with a needle that was used on someone else. I wouldn't have a problem because I don't have that much fear of the disease, but you do. If these type of situations bug you, than avoid them. You don't deserve the stress.

Thank you. I know, I always do stupid things when I'm out of my senses, meaning drunk... I have learned through years to cope with my anxieties, but I'm always looking for reassurance... Take care, and again, thanks....
