Possible Acute HIV Symptoms - Genital Ulcers and Rash

Hello folks,

I recently began having unprotected intercourse with my girlfriend.  We had intercourse frequently for the first 2.5 weeks.  At this point she began to feel burning during urination.  She went to the doctor who diagnosed her (without testing) as having a UTI.  These medications did not work and she then used a single dosage yeast infection med.  This still did not solve the problem.  She was then diagnosed (visually) with genital herpes which may have come from my oral HSV-1 infection.  She began to take valtrex for herpes and flagyl for a trich infection, which she began on a Thursday.  She began to feel better Saturday.  On Sunday morning she woke up with a rash covering her entire body.  The rash is not itchy but covers her from head to toe, excluding plams and soles of feet.  She has no other symptoms, the rash is only cosmetically bothersome.

Could this rash be related to the primary herpes infection?  HIV seroconversion?

Any ideas people?

NO and NO. Have been checked for Trichomonas? If not you should be.

I will be checked tomorrow.  Today which is two days of rash onset (that is fading) she said she is starting to develop flu like symptoms.

Can I still think these to be unrelated?

Yes because those are not symptoms of HIV. I take it that you two did not test before having unprotected sex?

Correct.  I test every four months but only for chlamydia, gonorrea, syphilis, hiv and hepatitis as part of my work physical.

I assume I will test HSV-2 positive tomorrow....and life will go on.  :)
