I am a 28 year old male. About 7-8 weeks ago I had a brief sexual encounter with a man that I later found out was HIV positive. It was brief and just the tip/head of my penis (uncircumcised) went into his anus for maybe 1 min. I came down with a cold/flu about 2-3 weeks after exposure and my doctor gave me antibiotics. My symptoms were stuffy/runny nose, sore throat, coughing and flushed skin but never got a fever. I started to feel better and then a week later I started to get swollen glands in my neck and under my jawline. I also had very flushed skin all over and a dry cough. Still no fever, in fact the entire time my temp was lower than normal at around 97.7. I started getting very anxious and anxiety kicked in so I had a oral swab test done at about 6 weeks past exposure and also had my doctor do a blood test a day later. The oral swab was negative as was the HIV blood test done by my doctor. The doctor did tell me that my Epstein Barr levels were very high and that I may have just had Mono. This was a relief but I find it odd that with my EBV levels so high that I dont feel that bad with the exception of swollen glands and some fatigue. My question is, are high EBV levels common during the HIV seroconversion process? Is my 6 week test a good sign that I am HIV neg?
