relationship with my husand for one year (married for 5 months). A few weeks before we got together a year ago, I had a casual, unprotected encounter with a white male, and I have not thought much about it until now. I was tested for HIV
at my first prenatal visit, and the result was negative (6 months post possible exposure with the random guy). New laws in Texas require 3rd trimester testing, so I was surprised to find that my results from this test (11 months post possible exposure) were ELISA
, Western Blot indeterminate. My husband has tested negative (last week). How is this possible??!?! What are the chances my indeterminate will become positive? Please help!
Thank you, Teak, for the info. My husband and I have been flipping out. I want to strangle my doctor now. He actually sat there and told me I was positive without explaining what "indeterminate meant."I was so confused and upset. He now refuses to see me, and has sent me to a high risk OBGYN.
result. It kind of also depends on how high the reactivity was on the ELISA test. If the reactivity was low like around 3 or 4 units, then it could have been a false positive. However, if it was >50, it probably was not a false positive.
We send out positive ELISA tests all the time and the westernblot mostly comes out positive or negative. An indeterminite definitely needs a retest to confirm the ELISA test. While it may have been due to your pregnancy, running a second test with the same results would most likely be accurate.
My second WB came back negative, and so were the DNA/PCR and CD4! : ) To all you preggos out there, rest assured--it's the TEST!!! What a heart attack for no reason!
