Purposeful exposure....

Forgive me for my ignorance which is why I am here to learn. I am genital herpes + and he is hiv+. We were under the assumption that mutual masturbation is safe due to absence of penetration and enclosed environment. I purposely gathered all his semen and used it to lubricate my penis for masturbation. I did not "notice" any open sores or cuts on myself at the time. Then just my luck, the following morning I was having a herpes outbreak. Who knows...maybe I was starting the pre-bumps manifestation at the time of the exposure and I didn't notice.

1-Can someone tell me if I set myself up for hiv transmission? As mentioned, I am learning and it has been a very confusing journey; real risk, theoretical risk, low risk, along with various differing opinions, and etc....

2-Should I have sought out PEP?
