Question About Possible HIV Exposure

Question About Possible HIV Exposure

Although the following may sound silly to some, I take any possible exposure to HIV very seriously and have the following posted to seek sound advice: Approximately two weeks ago, I was in a local store browsing through some fishing items to purchase. I picked up a bag of large artificial bait which included one fishhook to inspect their quality. I inadvertently stuck myself through the plastic with the fishhook at the top end of my index finger right above the nail. The stick produced a drop of blood when I squeezed it so I continued to squeeze it basically until it stopped, which took about 30 seconds. Upon closer inspection of the bag containing the fishhook, I noticed that there was a previous hole in the bag where the fishhook had pierced the bag once before. This concerned me and the risk of HIV exposure came to mind. Is exposure possible through this type of accidental stick and should I be concerned?

no risk...hiv is not transmitted through environmental surfaces or inanimate objects.
