Question about symptoms?

Question about symptoms?

Hi,

I had unprotected sex one time with a guy about 8 months ago.  As far as I know I haven't had any symptoms of HIV.  I have not been tested.  How common is it to have symptoms? What symptoms do people *usually* have? How soon do MOST people have symptoms?  Thanks!

About half of the infected people have symptoms and they usually happen 2-3 weeks after infection.
Another thing you should know is that unless the guy has sex with other guys or uses IV drugs, he probably doesn't have HIV.
If he does, the chances you got infected from a one-off are 1:1000.
If you feel queezy about your encounter take the test.
Expect negative results.

Thanks!  He doesn't do either of those.  This has just been bothering me for awhile.  I will get tested asap.

dtgrl,
Don't let teak scare you.

You'll be fine.  Up to 90% of people have symptoms, some dont, but most do as stated here on thebody.com a well respected website for hiv info.

Fever and rash are most common and others in combination typically indicate new infections.  Symptoms without fever are strong indicators against new infection, especially in low risk situations like yours.

Read it for yourself and you will see.
