Rash and PN

Rash and PN

My exposure was on July 4th.  It was unprotected with my BF, hetero, non-iv drugs (I'm female) that I have been with now 8 months.  This is only the 3rd time we have not used protection.  Although he did not finish it may have lasted 10-15 minutes.  I have HSV-2 and I know the risk for me catching HIV goes up because of the skin problem.  My question is as follows: Thirteen days after exposure I developed a rash on my right arm from the elbow down to my wrist.  Went to my PCP and a Dermatologist.  Both at first glance thought it was posion ivy or oak.  It spread up to my face adn looked like welts and itched.  The rash went away with the prescription cream in a week, though total time with it was 14 days.  I never had a fever or sore throat either.  Now we are at 3 months post exposure and I have developed a pins and needles sensation in my right foot only.  It stayed for roughly 3 weeks and then I was put on Neurontin.  During this time I was injured with my rt foot in a hard cast and fell (which they think caused the pins and needles).  The feeling is now gone and I have a tingling in my left foot.  I read that PN will come during subconversion adn go away in a month and a few posts regarding people that had this 3 months after exposure.  DOes Pn show up and go away after 3 months? Could this be HIV related?  Thanks for any responses.

Hi cantbelive,

You rash probably has nothing to do with hiv. The rash for hiv is generally on the torso, or should at least be symmetrical. Rash on the right side only, should not be related to hiv.

Your guess about the pins and needles being related to you foot in a hard cast is most probably correct.

Nevertheless, unprotected vaginal sex is still a risk. For that incident, if you are worried, a test at 3 months, which is actually right now, will be conclusive.

May God bless
