Hi 1_worried

We're not HIV experts, but reading the other threads on this forum, it would be extraordinary if Abs had not been produced after 3 months, never mind several years. I don't know what the statistics would be and it's difficult to say it would NEVER happen, but my suspicion is that you're much more likely to win the lottery 2 weeks running than have negative tests for that long and still be infected with HIV.

Unless you've has other exposures since then, you're HIV negative.

I have been with my husband for almost 5 years and we have been married for 3.  I just have a terrible fear that I could have gotten HIV some 10 years or so ago, and despite all the negative tests I have had, I am still having a difficult time.  All of my symptoms that I am having are worrying me, wondering if they are HIV related, or are because of all the worry I am doing.

Almost definitely the anxiety - something most of us on this forum are familiar with!

So, stomach problems, loss of appetite, taste changes, insomnia and weight loss can be due to anxiety?  I have been on Paxil for 2 months and I am wondering if that is what is causing the symptoms or my anxiety or both.  I can't help but attribute it to HIV.

I am tired of this.  I want to snap out of it.

Hi 1_worried,

Again, I'll say we're not medical experts, but I think all of those things could be caused by severe anxiety. The one thing I can say with the information you've given is that it's not HIV....

Yes, of the symptoms that you have mentioned, many may be attributable to Paxil. Generalized anxiety disorder is certainly a known side effect, as is general gastrointestinal discomfort, such as nausea, and also insomnia. As for weight loss, it seems to me that if your stomach is often upset, you may have cut back on your food intake, which would lead to weight loss.

I will echo what another poster has already said regarding this matter, and that is that it is highly, highly unlikely that you would have tested negative on your HIV tests, given the times involved, if you were not indeed truly negative. So, it may be time to stop focusing on HIV as the source of your problems and instead speak to the doctor who prescribed the Paxil. He or she may want to adjust your doseage or try you on another medication. Or, may want to continue you on the current med and dose to see if you will eventually adjust. I am not an expert on this, but I do think it is time to speak with your doctor.
