Receding gums from HIV?

I had sex unprotected and oral with a girl I was seeing for a few months up until the end of January 2007.  I got and HIV test after 6 weeks of the last time we had sex.  It came back negative.  I plan to test again at three months.  I also got tested for other STDs which were negative.

My main concern is my teeth/mouth.  I heard this is often the first place HIV will attack.  I went to the dentist last week and he said I have receding gums and 4 cavities!  My teeth also seem more yellow than usual.

Is it possible my teeth and gums are falling apart already?  I know 6 weeks negative is reassuring but can your mouth fall apart in a matter of a few months from HIV infection?  Today I noticed I have a canker sore in my inside front lower lip. Panicked and nervous.  Please help!

Where on earth are you getting that information? I have friends that have had HIV and Aids longer than myself and I would die to have their teeth.

I have read on thebody that pretecting oral health is key when you are infected with HIV and that the mouth can be the first place HIV begins to effect.  I havent felt sick at all but I have noticed that my teeth look worse and worse.  I brush all the time but they seem more yellow and when the dentist told me my gums are receding I got really scared.  So I started researching on thebody and they had whole forum on oral health!  Freaking me out...

I dont have any other symtoms but I cant stop looking atmy mouth now.  I know I was HIV negative before sex with this woman because I had to get tested for health insurance last year.

If I was positive would it affect me this fast? Maybe I am rapid progressor?

I don't know how old you are but receding gums come with age. Yes, oral health care is very important. But receding gums is not cause by HIV.

Thanks for your hlep.  I am 38.  I think getting the receding gums diagnosis and 4 cavities (which I never get) just freaked me out because I try to brush regularly and eat a good diet (but i drink coffee).  And now I have this canker sore so I just figured I am doomed.  I am going to get another HIV test at 8 weeks for piece of mind.  You are so kind to answer all these people.  It seems as if you are the key person on this forum providing help.  Are you a doctor?  Its impossible to get a posting to the Dr forum on here.  They take like one question per day.  Thank you again for your help.
