Received oral and coughing while kissing

Hi,

I'm a gay male from a small town. Last weekend I was on a trip and I went to a sex club, both on saturday and sunday. I had sex with 5 men. I am very scared of contracting HIV, so I NEVER have unprotected anal (and when I do have anal I'm always the top, using a condom, and it never broke), nor do I ever perform oral. This time there was no anal at all, guys gave me oral and we kissed. On Sunday, one of the guys I was with started coughing while we were kissing. He pulled away, but he did cough while we were kissing. I didn't notice any blood, nor could I taste anything weird (in anyone's mouth).

Yesterday, Sunday (seven days after the first day having sex), I woke up and I could just feel my lymph node in the neck. Strange feeling. I touched it and indeed I could feel a bean sized lump. Today It's still about the same size. It's exactly at the position like the red one in this pic

It's not visibly swollen, but I definitely can feel it under my fingers. My immune system is not that good, so I am very prone to catch all the flus and infections running about, but I have never  had swollen lymph nodes, at least not that I remember. I suppose if I had them, I would feel them like I felt it his time.

I feel sort of weak and feverish, and have a sore throat, but mostly I feel fine, not like regular flu that knocks you down. I know normally my behavior would be written off as having no exposure (no anal, only receiving oral and kissing), but now I am really scared, especially because of that guy coughing in my mouth, and the swollen lymph node.

What do you think, was there an exposure?

You will have had a swollen lymph node. It's just you never noticed in the past. Believe it or not doctors do not automatically suspect HIV when it comes to generic symptoms. They'd probably suspect a cold and if they think the source viral they would advice you ride it out (and drink plenty of fluids) but if they see signs of a bacterial infection they will prescribe antibiotics. Hope this helps with your anxiety. I commend your safe sex practices

And the worst part is I am afraid to go to the doctor thinking he would suspect HIV infection.

Well, that is true. I have an almost irrational fear of HIV, that's why I am so careful about what I do when it comes to sex, and often times the more I read about the symptoms the more I start seeing them happening to me.

It's just that I never ad the swollen lymph node, that's why I am so worried. (As I said, even I know that the things I do are considered as non exposure, but when the anxiety kicks in you start to think about the "one in a million" sceanario)

Your swollen lymph node is probably a result of your sore throat. You can see a doctor if you wish but believe it or not swollen lymph nodes are a common occurrence in the human body. Even a large pimple can cause a lymph node to swell. This is why a swollen lymph node cannot on its own be a symptom of HIV. Your anxiety is probably heightening your symptoms.

Ok, thanx. Guess I'll have to see a doctor about the node.

Doesn't matter, still not a risk.

Ok, thanx. I just hope there wasn't blood in his mouth and a canker sore in mine or something like that. It just seems to be too big of a coincidence.

Not related to HIV

The node is sometimes a bit painful, sometimes not. And the whole right side of the neck feels a bit painful.

well, I do have some

sore throat - very, it's very hard to swallow saliva, yeat eating and drinking not a problem, except with harsh liquids which irritates the throat. Coughing is a terrible pain. I can definitely feel like there's something in my throat.

The node seems to be a bit bigger now, though still not visible, and directly beneath it tehere's some redness, kinda like you get when harshly shaving - and I did shave that morning when I first noticed it, though there's no redness on the rest of my face

Ocasionally I get muscle pain in my legs and I feel cold, almost to the point of shivering.

I don't think my throat was ever this sore unless I was having a terrible cold and flu. And with the swollen node, I am still worried. I have a tendency to develop horrible canker sores, but I don't remember having any then.

It just feels so unusual, I never had a swollen node, and right a week after the sex.

You had no risk.
I said it's not related to HIV because you don't get just one possible symptom.

So, I do not need to panic. And no need for testing?

For HIV, there is nothing called as one in million case. If it would have infected you in the way you stated above, it would have infected others too leading to alarming rise in HIV cases. That's simple plain logic.

Thanks. I'm just concerned it might be one of those one in a million freakish infections.

Well, not exactly, one of the early symptoms of HIV infection is a swollen lymph node in the neck

I already shared my advice.

Coughing when kissing, well might be a risk...for a COLD.

Swollen lymph node is nothing to do with HIV, see a Dr if concerned.

One would think so, but I am almost 100% sure that I never felt that lymph node as big as this. And it's a bit painful when I touch it.

Yes, I practice safe sex (how many gay men do you know who never perform oral - most guys call me a prude),  even though I have sex rarely, and when I do it's multiple partners (the problem of living in a gay unfriendly place).

You can't live without sex, but  try my best to do it as safe as possible.

What's the actual risk from a guy coughing while we were kissing? Is a swollen lymph node always visible (like in the pics online)? Cuse on the left side of the neck I don't feel the node, I only feel it on the right side.

Hi, there is a huge difference between feeling the Lymph node and feeling a swollen Lymph node. Oral sex is not a medium to transmit HIV. You were never ever exposed to the virus from the above activities and its good to hear to practice safe sex. Good luck.
