Risk and Symptoms

Dr Doctor,

I know this is my second posting within 6 months, and i'm aware of the rule that after this i cannot post another for 6 months.

My previous post explained my circumstances and you believe i had minimal risk of contracting HIV.  I just want to ellaborate on my story.

My potential exposure was on the 15th Nov in Amsterdam, were i had protected sex and protected oral, (both activities with same condom, no ejaculation) the prostitute used a lubrication, i do not know if this was oil or water based.  After returnin home, approx 7 days later i woke up sweating in the night, i did not think anyting of it and just fell back to sleep, on the 10th day i went out for a meal with my girlfriend and half way through i just completely lost my appetite and felt sick.  From that point forward i havent eaten proper, had nights were i slept heavy and nights were i couldnt sleep at all.  I have lost approx a stone in weight over this period.  after 5.5weeks i developed a sore throat, cough (think was chesty) and one swollen gland under my right jaw.  This cleared within a week. But still have a slight weezy cough.  I got tested at the 2 week mark for all std's including HIV, they all came back negative.  Since that i was tested for HIV at the 4 week mark, were the Antibody and P24 Antigen came back non-detected.

My main concern is my girlfriend, before this event i had never cheated on her or even thought about doing anythin like this, amsterdam was a drink fuelled mistake.  The biggest of my life.  I havent told my girlfriend about the incident, and dont plan too unless the worst happens.  When i returned from amsterdam i had unprotected sex with my girlfriend twice, before i realised about the risks i put her at.  Since then i used protection.  My worry is that my girlfriend has also shown symptoms, 3 weeks after having unprotected sex with her she woke up in the middle of the night sweating and feeling like she had an hangover, the next couple of days she felt sick and had the runs.  The night she woke up we'd been out on works party, she had a vodka with lime, only one, she seems to think it was that what caused her to be ill.  Within a few days she felt fine again.  Now at the 5.5 week mark she has got a runny nose, sore throat, and swollen glands (one under left jaw, and another on left side of neck, these are swollen and sore to touch).  There are alot of sickness bugs, and colds going around my town at the moment.

So my questions,

1) Do you believe that i should be worried about having HIV and giving it to my girlfriend.
2) Was my 4 week antigen and antibody test reliable?
3) Are all the above symptoms likely to be ARS?

I appreciate all your advise, and i will not post a reponse to your answer, i will just except your reponse and move on.

thanks again

P.

What happened to "I will not post a reponse to your answer, i will just except your reponse and move on"?  By forum rules, I should have deleted this question without any response at all.  You know the answsers to your follow-up questions, which were addressed several weeks ago.  This thread is over.

The substance and tone of your repeated questions indicates there is zero possibility you will achieve "closure" online.  See a mental health professional.  You may not continue to ask questions here.  One more try will get you banned from any future participation in the MedHelp forums.
