Risk for STDs

23, male, caucasian, very scared.

Two weeks ago I had unprotected vaginal sex with a girl I had met over the internet. She had a husband that turned out to be cheating on her with a guy. For this reason, she told me that she had a full STD Test and is clean. We had intercouse for no more than thirty seconds. Ever since the encounter I have had a burning urethra. I got tested for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia 5 days after exposure and results came back negative. I was very relieved, but pain in my urethra persisted so I took another urine test on 7/31 and am awaiting results. However, since then I have experienced the following symptoms:

- Swollen Lymph Nodes around neck: This was the first one, however when I went to the doctor she told me they were normal and that I am overreacting. (10 Days after exposure)

- Clicking in my throat when I swallow (11 Days after exposure)

- Clearing my throat but nothing comes up. (10 Days after exposure)

- Thicker, Whiter Saliva. (11 Days after exposure)

- Joint aches (5 Days after exposure)

- Insomnia (because of how terrified I am) (11 Days after exposure)

- Rash under my thumb that looks pinkish peach color. (12 Days after exposure)

Because of these symptoms, I am petrified that I have contracted HIV from this encounter. Therefore, I have taken a full STD test today (13 days after exposure) in order to clear my head. The doctor said if HIV comes back, it is very unlikely that I have it, but just in case I better be tested in 6 months after exposure. I should be getting the results in 3-4 days and my second Gonorrhea/Chlamydia test tomorrow.

Everyone I talk to tells me to remain calm and not to worry about it. I however cannot stop thinking about it and don’t think my peace of mind will come until the test results. Furthermore, the woman keeps telling me to calm down and that she is clean and I want to believe her. However, paranoia and these symptoms have led me to believe she is lying.

I guess my one big question would be should I be worrying about this? How much of a risk was it for me to have contracted HIV from 30 seconds of unprotected vaginal sex? Could my symptoms just be stress induced?

Thank you very much. A lot of people are giving me peace of mind especially staying off webmd. I think I can finally say that I will be calm until the test results are in.

Yes anxiety/stress and your fear of hiv can cause a lot of issues. Its easier said then done but don't search the internet, try not to think about it because it will consume you.  There is nothing you can do now but wait. As far as risk,  yes there is a risk since you had unprotected vaginal sex. But you said she already tested so try to relax
