Dr.
I recently had sex with another man. We started off by performing oral sex on each other, no ejaculation occurred. I then put on a condom and my partner sat on my penis. While he was riding me he ejaculated on my chest but some of his semen splashed into my eye. My eye burned and was irritated the rest of the evening. I didnt put any drops into my eye.
I have since learned that my partner was HIV+. How bad is my risk exposure

Unfortunately this was the question posed to Dr.H . In my first post "RISK" I posted his answer which really upset me. I am going to focus on Dr Bob spin on it or panic.
I guess I didn't miss read it.
Well thank you for your reply. I might have miss read him I really don't want to re-read it for it has caused me quite a bit of worry. I agree with all you said about eye contact. Most all other sites I read including a couple of calls today say it is very low risk.
I really have been employing safe sex and for this to happen really is disappointing. The more I think of it the more I think I might not have got it shot in the eye but had some on a towel and rubbed my eye about 5 min. latter. I know there was no stinging at first. If that's the case, then the virus [if any] would have be even more weakened.
Again thanks if you coume up with other thought let me know for it is calming.
I wounder why Dr. Hook takes that stance about semen in the eye?
You are taking Dr. Hook's comments out of context and applying them to your situation, which is innaccurate. He is speaking of the mucous membranes in the rectum, you are speaking of the eye...two totally different animals here.
Anal sex involves penetrative exposure...where the virus is not exposed to anything (ie air, the environment) that would render it inactive.....like would be the situation in the eye. Also, you have to understand basic anatomy. The anus/rectum is a LARGE area that is very vascular, hence the high risk. The eye is a very small area, with most of the membrane being pretty much exposed to the environment. There is no risk from an eye exposure.
You are talking about apples and oranges. I would suggest you stop searching..b/c you are taking information out of context, and that isn't helpful for yourself. You are just fine.
