Scared to Death

Scared to Death

On 10 July I had unprotected oral sex with a TS/TV performed and recieved. I also had protected anal sex performed and recieved. I used DUREX  Avanti condoms due to latex allergies. A couple days after I developed a small sore on the shaft of my penis. It had a white to yellow colored top. I scrubed it and broke the top because I though it might be Folliculitis. It has since healed and do have a minor scar at the location, and I was taking a 5 day course of Levaquin 750 at the time. Since the sexual encounter I have had swollen glands in the neck and x 2 weeks. Very tired all the time and diarrhea and loose stool. I have not lost appetite but cant seem to get a solid stool. Lately I seem to feel like I have a flu like cold sometimes itchy skin and last night noticed that the top of my tongue was white in color. No fever but just run down with sinus congestion. I contacted the person whom I had sex with and asked if they had been feeling ill and was cut off with no further response. So I guess my question is would my contact with this person put me at risk for HIV infection? I have read about the symptoms of ARS and seem to have some of these symptoms and I am very worried. Thanks!

Hi there,

Firstly, your symptoms are not HIV specific.  And your risk is remote (as good as zero).

I am not really familiar with Durex Avanti Polyurethane Condoms, think it's plastic rather tha rubber.  If I am not wrong, they claim to be safe and can prevent some STDs, including HIV infection. However, the tends to break easily compare to latex.  So use it with care.....

So you are saying that the risk of infection is minimal at best? Should I even consider testing?

Yap, I don't recommend test for this 1 time incident.

However, I do recommend STD, including HIV, examination at least once a year for those sexually activive person.

Cheers

Thanks!

I will take your advice to heart. I think I will do a 12 week test just as a starting point and then a test at the 1 year mark, Does that sound about right? Thanks again for your time and advice. I am starting to settle down and bit and not as stressed out as I was. I think alot of my symptoms may have been purely stress related.
