Serious Symptoms and High Risk!

Hi,

Im very worried that i have HIV1 rare group or HIV2.

Below is my history:

I've had unprotected sex with a female stranger and also two days before that a Malaysian prostitute which i think the condom might have slipped.

One week after exposure i was having symptoms of:
Low grade fever, chills, serious fatigue, diarrhea, bad night sweats

I then got scared and test at 11th day after exposure and the results were:
Herpes 1: positive, Chalymedia: postitive, HIV&SEP: negative. Whats alarming is that only my lymphocytes changed and dropped by 35% which is 21% of total WCC, this is compared to 3 month ago.

My symptoms got better for two week, but then at three weeks after exposure i was getting the same symptoms along with a skin rash. The rash is small red dots, some are raised and some are inside the skin. The rash itches when touched. I got a swollen lymph gland on right side of neck.

Soon after i started to have sticky saliva and white fur tongue, along with all the other previous symptoms.

I got tested again at 43rd day. The AG/AB test was negative and they also did a Plasma PCR RNA test for HIV1 only and was undetectable.

Those symptoms have gone away at the 8th week after exposure and came back again at 10th week. So now im getting brown flat rash (not many around neck), a very swollen lymph node (the size of a large bean) at the middle of right neck, i got diagnosed with bacteria conjunctivitis with my eyes, i got 3 large ulcer in mouth along with few smaller ones inside bottom lips... i feel like going to toilet after every time i eat and during night.

I feel that my immune system has been compromised and something must be very wrong with me.... so what are the chances that its a rare HIV1 or most likely HIV2?

I have read those guidelines and yes you are correct in the UK the window period is 3 months but there are still some doctors that like to reduce it by telling their patients they are not required to test after 6 weeks which i personally think is wrong. They have liability insurance though so if they get it wrong they are covered.

The need for a repeat HIV test if still within the window period after a specific exposure should be discussed. Although fourth generation tests shorten the time from exposure to seroconversion a repeat test at three months is still recommended to definitively exclude HIV infection.

It's not conservative and it's not dated.

I know it's all very confusing because here in london a combination tests ab +ag is supposed to be very accurate at around 28 days and then there are other countries that say 6 weeks, etc. But my understanding has always been 3 months is the correct testing window.

Yeah... thats why im so scared.. i dont think its 100% accurate.. I read on Jap gov sites that 3 month is for hiv1 and hiv2 is 3~6 month window period.

Im going to test again on 2nd of Jan... and fingers crossed....

It might be why the cdc in America says that 3% of people might take longer than 3 months to produce antibodies.I don't know how current that information is or how conservative they might be.

You are not being treated for an immune disease or you wouldn't be playing on the computer. Accept your negative result or seek professional mental help to find out why you won't accept your results.

Hi,I think people turning positive after a 3 month negative result is a thing of the past.I have researched rare cases in the 1980's but that's all.

Hi Teak,

Do you know cases of people turning positive after 90 days?

I had negative at 90days and shortly after my symptoms have got better.
Except for enlarged lymph node and cough thats been going on for months. From 2 weeks ago, i started to get this very very itchy nose.. and now its spread to my eyebrows and face areas close to hair........

What do you think?

To add....

Worrying about rare strains is something commonly seen in very anxious people who have spent too much time searching the internet.  It's not a realistic thing to be concerned about.  If you test negative, you don't have HIV, end of story.

Again, as we say here all the time, symptoms are NOT a reliable indicator of HIV status.

You've been advised when to test.  Your exposure was not high risk, and your negative test results thus far make the chances even lower.  MOST newly infected people test + very rapidly and IF a person experiences TRUE ARS symptoms, their test will be positive very soon after the onset of symptoms.

Stop searching the internet about HIV, get your mind on something else, you're only fueling your anxiety.

Hi Teak,

When you said you seen people turn positive after 6 week negative. Is that many?

Also is it using 4th gen test?

Most infected people will test pos at 6 weeks but most is not all. That is why 3 months is conclusive not 6 weeks.

Hi Teak,

Thanks.

Is it a large number of people turning positive after 6 weeks. Was there a reason because they used 3rd gen test or other reasons? Or simply because 6 week is no were near conclusive.

Yes and the seroconversion for HIV2 in no different than HIV 1.

Hi Teak, thanks for your reply.

Just wondering if you can tell me, if you have seen 6 week negative turn positive?

Also if you have any experience with HIV2 people and if the seroconversion are alot later, thus 9~10th week after exposure.
