Hello everyone. Can someone please give me some insight or advice? I am a 23 year old heterosexual male that was recently diagnosed with ebv and is scared for my life. I recently had a HIV
but my titers were extremely high for ebv but negative monospot. I am normally very active and for the most part healthy. The first symptom that began to concern me was a rash that appeared on my lower back that was suspected as being Shingles (appeared on the left side of body was red, blistered, and painful. The physician was uncertain due to the fact that it had slightly cleared upon my arrival to the doctor (which was 3 to 4 weeks after symptoms began). Other symptoms consist of nausea, weight loss, loss of appetite, constant bubbling in the stomach ,watery bowel movements (only in the mornings), swollen lymph node on the right back side of the neck, redness over eye lids, loss of sleep, random tingling and numbness in feet and hands, dry skin especially on hands and face, pain in lower back and abdomen and possible but uncertain of what appears to be a white tongue but I do have white pus like looking spots in the back of the throat. My ebv numbers are:
EBV Ab VCA, IgM- 1.6
EBV Early Antigen Ab, IgG- 0.3
EBV Ab VCA, IgG- 8.0
EBV Nuclear Antigen Ab, IgG- 2.7
My reference range for all four values is as follows:
Negative 1.0 1.0
The physician was not of any help at all when it came to my bloodwork. I didn't receive any explanation for my numbers. Can someone please give me some insight on on my values? Can all this be caused by ebv or is it what I assumed it to be? What do my numbers mean? And how long does it usually take for HIV + individual to seroconvert? My test was taken approximately 3-4 weeks after my symptoms began. Please be as honest as possible, I am extremely tired and just want an answer but hoping for the best. Please help!!! Thank you
Thank you for your response. I am planning a visit to an infectious disease doctor within the next week. I want to make sure I can find someone who knows what their dealing with. I realize a 3 month HIV test is for the most part conclusive but I am really having anxiety and emotional issues right now while waiting. I try to stay off the internet as much as possible because researching information only seems to make matters more difficult to deal with. The test that I was given at the urgent care facility I visited was an ELISA antibody test. How accurate are these test at picking up the virus in its early stage? Could it possibly pick up the virus in the 5 to 6 week stage or is that unlikely. My symptoms have slightly decreases since my doctors visit which was on the 7th of November but I still have this flu-like feeling, slightly sore throat at times, the decreased appetite, and stool and digestion issues. I try to keep as many fluids in my body as I can and that seems to help with abdomen and back issues sometimes.
Hello... Can someone answer my question or at least relate to this situation? Negative HIV antibody but high Ebv numbers and negative monospot. Does this automatically mean I am HIV +
Yes Teak I understand that. But I do realize that it can be caused by a supressed immune system. I still feel that I have a slight chance of being negative and all these symptoms are being caused by my anxiety and the ebv. But knowing that it is not infectious mononucleosis really puts alot of doubts in my head.
