was a bit crusted over and did not have any running blood. Upon further examination of the legion I believe that there was one layer of skin on the cut
but lacking the second protective layer. Am I at a horrible risk for possible infection?
I don't want to sound like a hysterical gay man, but I live in NYC and people are infected with all sorts of crazy things; I would hate to ruin my life in my early 20's.
No, this isn't a risk. Cuts and abrasions start healing IMMEDIATELY, and there are several layers of skin which provide a barrier against infection. Not to mention, the HIV virus is weak and cannot cause transmission outisde of the body...cuts or no cuts.
Modes of transmission are---unprotected anal or vaginal sex, sharing IV needles, and from mother to infant.
Thank you! This has eased my anxiety. I will most certainly get tested just to get my self on a routine but I will go into it fully assured that that encounter was safe.
