Stitches in indonesia

Dear Doctor.

About 5 year ago I was travelling in Indonesia when I stepped on a broken bottle. I had a pretty deep wound and a local doctor gave me a few stitches and took them out later. I am not sure how clean the place was. Am I in risk of being HIV positive? What are my odds?

No you were never at risk of contracting HIV unless you had unprotected sex with the doctor.

Thank you for your quick reply. I was only asking because I was very afraid that some of the equipment used to attach and remove the stitches could have been contaminated and not cleaned properly. Couldn't the HIV virus survive if it was not cleaned correctly?

hiv doesnt survive outside the body, it dies quickly, like teak said, unless you had sex with the doctor unprotected you were not at risk
