Swollen Parotid lymph node and lymphadenopathy

by dawg08, Feb 07, 2008 08:09PM
Hi Doctor,
I had a very low risk exposure 4 months back.
At the 3-4 weeks I had sore throat and very noticable enlarged parotid gland near my left ear. I went to my physician at week 8, the swelling of parotid gland came down a bit by then. He refered me to a ENT at week 11. The ENT specialist prescribed me pencillin for 10 days and ordered a CT scan.
I had a Home HIV test kit done at Week 11 and I got a negative result.

The CT scan results came back and he showed me the enlarged lymph node and about 3 other slightly enlarged lymph nodes. He said I had lymphadenopathy.

I am at week 16 and I still have the swollen parotid lymph node near my left ear. I am scared because the antibiotics did not work for me to reduce the swelling of the lymph node.

I am scheduled for a follow up with ENT for another CT scan in two weeks from now. He said he would schedule a biopsy of lymph node if I still have swollen lymph nodes in the CT scan.

Please tell me if I need to take another HIV test just to rule out HIV for the cause of swollen lymph nodes for nearly 4 months.

Thanks in advance.

You've posted in the wrong forum. If you would like a doctor to respond you'll need to post in the Related Expert Forums-HIV Prevention.

Thank you very much.
