are detected. I did NOT get a fever, lethargic, runny nose or any other typical flu symptom. I did however break out with the occasional cold sore that I have gotten in the past. I have been very stressed out at work for the last month, so I know my immunities are down.
My question : Are swollen tonsils a early symptom of HIV? And what should I do if they stay swollen passed a week? How concerned should I be that I may have contracted HIV or anything else?
I would be concerned. I don't know about the tonsils being a symptom, but you might as well go get treatment for that in the meantime. I believe that the earliest you can test for HIV after an encounter is 3 weeks, but it could be longer. I would get yourself tested every few weeks for at least six months to make sure you've ruled it out. Most cities offer free HIV testing. And please, for the love of God, don't have any more unprotected sex!!
What wishforanswers said. Also you can go to your doctor and tell him/her what's going on and see, if for the mean time, something else unrelated might be going on.
