If you believe you have been exposed to HIV and want help to judge your risk, would like advice about HIV testing, or have questions about the effectiveness of condoms or risks associated with specific sexual practices, this is the site for you.
I've recently gone for my test (about the 25 day mark). Not 100% but will be reassuring, (low risk, one night stand heterosexual encounter, with protection for most of the encounter, it came off at the end for a period of time. Although the nurse gave me some weird vibes and it is going to take 2-3 WEEKS for my results!!! I have since spoken to the girl, and she reassures me everything is fine.
About a week after the encounter I had a sore throat (lasted about a week) slight fever (lasted about 3 days), and swollen salivary glands that lasted the time of the sore throat, left gland remained swollen, and left side of throat remained sore for about 2 days longer than the right gland and right side of throat.
I know that symptoms don't arise for at least 10 days, but would the next day after the encounter be too early for a lymph node to swell, followed by a sore throat about 8 days later? I realize that the node may have been swelled before the encounter and I may have just been looking harder after. Since the sore throat, I have had slight headaches or possibly slight fever, not sure. The groin node has been swollen for about a month now... Just trying to ease my anxiety until my test results, I may not be in town to get them, for awhile after they are available, which I find even more stressful!!!
I should also add, that the sore throat was more painful in the morning, and not so bad during the day, and seemed the pain went away after drinking hot liquids, or taking sinus pills........
Your symptoms all came on too early to be related to HIV. You probably just picked up one of the many common viruses that go around.
And as far as your nodes go, if you keep checking and irritating them they will swell and stay swollen. Leave them alone and go see your doctor if your problems persist. They are unrelated to HIV.
I went back and looked at your post on 4/12 and you did have a slight risk when you were unprotected. You need to learn how to properly use condoms and lube and then you shouldn't ever have to worry about condom mishaps.
Still, my opinion doesn't change regarding your symptoms being unrelated.
Try not to pick apart your body and link everything to HIV.
Take your test at the appropriate time and let us know how it turns out. Good luck.
Also for those that live in Canada, just to note, I live in B.C., does anyone else find it strange that it might take up to 3 weeks to get results? Just seems like a long time period.

Thanks for the quick reply, I don't poke and feel my nodes very often, the groin one I can just feel most of the time (a feeling of tightness).
As far as condom mishaps, its was just a poor decision heat of the moment. It will never be a problem in my life ever again.
Thanks again!!
