Teak, I am so confused

Hi Teak. My husband is having both knees replaced at the same time and is going to require at least two pints of blood. I have seen you say on here that blood transfusions are safe, but when  I google blood transfusions and knee replacement I see some pretty scary stuff in regards to hiv and blood transfusions. Are there people out there that continue to post crazy stuff? Is hiv not a concern with blood transfusions?

Not today,it's not a concern at all. If you have any questions talk with the surgeons.

Good, that is what I thought and hoped you were going to say. He had one back in 2000 with one hip replacement(he played college football). After that I got worried because his absolute eosonophil count was always around 460 and I think high end of normal is 400. I ofcourse had read somewhere that high eoso. could be indicative of hiv. Is this in advanced hiv and would they have to be really extreme? He does battle viral bronchitis in the fall months every year so I always thought that is why the eoso's were high.

Are hig eosonophils by themselves indicative of hiv? Or is that a myth, would something else have to be off in cbc and what would that be?
