Test questions

I had unprotected oral and protected Vaginal sex but condom tore. I felt sick 2 weeks after bad head cold bad congestion. Had white stuff on back of tounge and noticed spots on gums freaked out started using a otc peroxide rinse for mouth sores and listerine multiple times a day . Mouth got worse went to doc at 4 weeks said thrush no test . Did nyastin did not get better went back to differ doc told him what was going on he gave me lonzenges and a NAT test for HIV . That was at 5 weeks it came back negative. One week after I had a combo 4th gen done . It was also negative. In your opinion should I be worried still? I have dry mouth and white tounge still and left side of throat is sore . I am 8 weeks out now . Should I feel confident or is dry mouth white tounge a bad sign? I am extremely freaked out and any help is appreciated!

Thanks kapster .... I am just a paranoid anxious wreck . I am doing my best to stay calm and get to the test without a heart attack. Want to get it over with and get back to my happy normally relaxed self. Even the kids can tell I am not the same . I need this to be over sooner than later and it's one of those things you have to just wait and it is damn near killing me .

Internet monster hit againENT said sore throat and white tounge are reflux put me on meds said will take 2 to 4 weeks to start feeling better and that I am doing it to myself with anxiety and stress . Is that possible ? And what makes you change mind on my test ? The NAT was 4.5 weeks after incident and the 4th gen duo rapid test was a vein drawn blood test sent to lab at day 41! P24 neg and hiv1/2 neg...... Thanks for the comments and support it is helping me get to that 3 month mark witch is the 30th and seems like it is forever away!

Please listen to Ruby. Your earlier test 4th gen where very very very reliable and is in some countries considered to be conclusive. But  CDC (which are a bit conservative like many other govnerment issues) is saying 12 weeks is conclusive! But it is really very very very very very very unlikely that the result will change in your case!
I know that CDC and others are still mentioning 12 weeks, because even with the theoratical possibility with severe immuunsystem ilnesses, PEP threatment, end stage Cancer, it would be slightly possible it would take longer then 4-8 weeks to have antibodies but if you have one of the theoretical possibilities you would know already!

VERY intelligent decision! I know it will be hard, but do me a favor? If between now and when you test.......you get the urge to "just look up a little information...." STOP! Write to me instead! OK?

I'd like to amend my statement about your tests.........I'd like to say that it is EXTREMELY unlikely they will change. E-T-R-E-M-E-L-Y.

Anxiety is going to be your biggest bug-a-boo and I can advise you to hell and back to stay busy as you can, but I know what the 3am demons are like. Besides taking some heavy duty knock out pill, which we do not endorse, you're just going to have to ride it out. You know what they say about Karma...............

Your physical symptoms sound like the Spring Crud going around and your ENT will probably put you on some antibiotics. Which, by the way, will NOT affect your test in ANY way even if you've finished them the week before! (We get asked that a LOT)

I'll be waiting to raise a toast to your NEGATIVE status!
Warmly

Thanks ruby I am going to stay off the sites until my 12 week test that is a little more than 3 weeks out. I Will be back to let you know the results as soon as I get them. Thank you for the advice and encouraging me that my test most likely are accurate and won't change at the 12 week mark. Anxiety is killing me and I have a sore throat neck pain and tounge is still jacked up but I am hoping they are from what feels like post nasal drip. Goin to ENT on Monday to get it looked at . I'll talk to you in about 25  to 30 days when results come in!!

OH DEAR! So you're STILL scouring the internet for answers! Please STOP as you're only feeding your anxiety which feeds your stress which feeds your anxiety ad nauseam and it won't stop until YOU do!

You are going for your 12 week confirmatory test and for your mental health I strongly suggest you step away from your computer. At least the damn symptom sites!

There remains debate between the medical community, science nerds and Big Pharma regarding the NAAT testing. And yes, I have heard of this and as far as I'm concerned the jury is still out. I don't know which "doc" made the statement you refer to, but I'd be interested in reading HIS research paper!

The MAKERS (read "Big Pharma) of NAAT/RNA have suggested two weeks is conclusive. The MAJORITY (That means just about everybody else) of regulatory agencies (that would be the CDC, WHO, NIH etc) and major HIV/AIDS organizations have NOT YET adopted this policy or made any change in their published guidelines.

This does not mean they won't eventually adopt this policy, it just hasn't happened yet.

Trying to keep abreast of all the newest research and findings and theories regarding HIV testing would drive Einstein crazy and most of us on this forum got there quite awhile ago!

Now, go spend a lot of time with those kids of yours and TRY to put your mind at ease. You're going to be fine and a hell of a lot smarter!

Good talk! How about that Trump dude? LOL
Let me know when you get your negative results!

Very wise choices..........most especially when you have kids!
A few minutes of sex is not worth a lifetime of living with HIV.

Both the tests you took are incredibly reliable........you can trust them explicitly.

In just a few weeks you'll be able to put all this behind and enjoy a wonderful summer with your kids!
I wish you the very best

I read on a forum that was a doc he said a NAT test any time after 2 weeks is virtually 100% accurate..... Have you heard this or believe this? I think a lot of what is going on with my body is stress and anxiety but I can't seem to shut it off

For complete peace of mind that you are HIV- which I have every confidence you are........have a confirmatory test done at 12 weeks. This test will be 100% conclusive and give you absolute peace of mind.

Symptoms are NOT diagnostic of HIV. ONLY a blood drawn test will give you accurate results for HIV.

If your mouth is not healing, see your doctor or dentist again. Some yeast/fungal infections are incredibly stubborn and can take weeks and sometimes months to completely clear up. This is NOT related to HIV.

Thank you ruby ! I am definitely getting my 12 week done . I have kids and want to see them grow old and also could not live with myself if I infected someone else . So it's no sex since that night and until I get my 12 week and never unprotected again until I am in another steady relationship and both test out again . Does anyone know the reliability of the test I took at the times I took them!
