Test while having flu

by vodanh, Nov 21, 2008 10:34PM
Hi all,

6 weeks ago I exposed to risk of HIV infection. I have been very anxious during those 6 weeks and cannot wait any longer to take a test. However, 2 days ago I got a flu. As I read throughout the forum, flu vaccination can cause false positive result. But I don't know if take a test while having flu could cause a false positive (I didn't have flu vaccination)? Can anyone help me clarifying this? Should I take a test right after the flu is over?

Thank you so much.

Vodanh,

1. ARS generally occurs 7-28 days post exposure. Now, considering that fact, it's very unlikely that your flu is an HIV related flu

2. No, even if you have flu and you test at this juncture your test result wouldn't have any interference.

3. Do remember to back your 6 weeks negative with a final test at the 12th week, a 6 weeks negative changing ahead is highly unlikely
