Test?

went to get a CAT scan today and they gave me a IV. The tech had gloves but did not put them on and there was blood spilling out when the either put in another tube or took out a certain part for the IV. All she did was dab and wiped the blood from me with a cotton gauge and I believe she got some blood on her fingers (side) it looked not dry but looked smeared, faint look of blood. She intial;ly threw away another needle because it had be open or something like that.  did not see if there was blood on that or not.

she did not seem to be bleeding since the paperwork did not have any blood or anything right before the IV.

But she did pick up a needle from the ground with her fingers and said she dropped from me but I don't know. Could have been there awhile.

DOES THE ORGINAL NEEDLE THAT SHE FIRST INSERTED IN ME STAY THERE OR DOES IT GET REMOVED AND REPLACED BY SOMETHING ELSE.

when the CAT scan was done she did put one glove on to remove the IV thing in me and did not see blood. I saw her hands during the procedure and she was not bleeding and don't know if she had cuts or not and don't know idf she was bleeding.

should I test and what kind of test?

STOP. You did not have a risk of contracting HIV from getting a CAT SCAN. End of discussion.

One last item, If she was bleeding would there be a cause for concern?  i was told that there would be no concern unless she was bleeding heavily.

You have nothing to worry about.  If anything, the nurse placed herself at more risk for herself than anything.

If this was for an IV (not a blood sample)...there is a needle that is initially used to access the vein and then a plastic-type catheter that is advanced into the vein...THAT is what stays in place for IV access, not a needle.

Either way, if you are worried about a needle being re-used, don't be.  Once an angiocath (IV) is used for IV insertion, it cannot be re-used.
