Testing Question - Unprotected Oral + Protected Vag

Hi,

I posted last week about an encounter I had where the day before I had a scrape on my knee (was bleeding the day before, was like a cut from a sharp objct). I had unprotected oral and protected vaginal. I just got tested with rapid testing today and it was negative. I was wondering, do you suggest I come back at the three month mark based on my theoretical risk?  My concern is with the vaginal fluids getting into any cuts I had on my body (specifically, the cut on knee, which was kind of scabbing but half still open on the day).

"My concern is with the vaginal fluids getting into any cuts I had on my body (specifically, the cut on knee, which was kind of scabbing but half still open on the day)."

Penetrative intercourse+ friction + receptor cells + amount of infectious fluid  coupled with NO exposure to air can potentially lead to infection.
Your "exposure" did not meet the criteria by a long shot.

See a doctor if you are concerned it has nothing to do with HIV.

You never had an exposure.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug users
Mother to child

Hi! I have a dear friend of mine who is HIV+, about  2 months ago i was at her place and i noticed she had white patches on her face(it looked like very dry skin), so i said to her you have some white patches on your face. She ran to the bathroom mirrior to see what i was talking about. i followed her to the batroom where we were standing very close to eachother, face to face(very small bathroom). As she was talking to me i felt some of her spit landed on my lip, it must've got inside my mouth too as my mouth was open. You see my friend and i both have peridontal gum disease(we both have bleeding gum). Long story short a month after that incident i got a lot of HIV symptoms such as goosebump like rash on my arms that itched, black, brown and red spots on my body, flu like symptoms, sore throat, sore/white lesions inside mouth, night sweats, chills, hot flashs, fever, diareah, heavy feeling in my chest, tight/lump feeling in my throat, swollen glands on neck and armpits, sensation of something crawling on my skin, and sleeplessness... To make the matter worse my friend sow my goosebump like rash and the brown/black spots and said they look like the ones she had also she said she experiences the same crawling sensation and sleeplessness. I had the fever for more than a week. Most of the symptoms including the rash and brown spots havent disappeared yet and its been a month and  half. I am just so terrified i dont know what to do i am losing my mind right now and i am so scared to go to my doctor. Could i have got hiv do to the fact that we both had gum disease and that her saliva had blood?? please help me . thank you in advance!

Hi Vance,

ONE more question promise.

Why is it not a risk that I fingered her vagina and may have gotten (or maybe she sat on top of me while giving me oral sex and her vaginal fluid dripped) on my knee cut and infected me?

Ask them, we can't speak for them.

Just curious, why do people ie health sites in Canada state that oral sex contains a risk?

NO risk = NO test.  Really quite simple.

Thanks Lizzie,

So you don't recommend in your educated opinion, that I return for testing after 2 months to verify my baseline?

FROM THE HIV EXPERTS HERE AT MEDHELP:

"As you know from other posts about oral sex, our stance is that giving or receiving oral sex is not a risk for HIV.  Some others suggest that there is an appreciable risk of HIV from oral sex however, there are no convincing scientific reports which support these statements.  The presence of a burn in your mouth, or a sore, or ingestion of blood does not change this.  Still no risk an no reason for testing."  DR HOOK

"As far as HIV is concerned, there is no known risk of getting HIV from performing oral sex on an infected partner, even if that person's genital secretions get into your eyes or if you swallow"  DR HOOK

There is no debate (among experts) about the HIV risks associated with oral sex.  The risk is so low that almost nobody who cares for HIV infected patients has ever had a patient believed to have been infected that way.  Among experts, it's a semantic issue about using terms like "no risk" and "very low risk".  There is no difference between my or Dr. Hook's use of "low risk" and other experts' "no risk".
DR. HANDSFIELD

"And oral sex is basically safe sex -- completely safe with respect to HIV and although not zero risk for other STDs, the chance of infection is far lower than for unprotected vaginal or anal sex.  Please educate yourself about the real risks.  If you stick with oral sex and condom-protected vaginal or anal sex, you have no HIV worries and very little worry about other STDs. "   DR HANDSFIELD

"I am sure you can find lots of people who belive that HIV is transmitted by oral sex, but you will not find scientific data to support this unrealistic concern..."   DR HOOK

"HIV is not spread by touching, masturbation, oral sex or condom protected sex."- DR. HOOK

in the public HIV Prevention forum of MedHelp, TEAK and the other moderators maintain that oral sex in all forms is a zero risk activity. Would you agree with this assessment?
I TOTALLY AGREE / DR GARCIA

The observation on thousand and thousand of observations is that HIV is not spread by oral sex (of any sort).  DR. HOOK

"With regard to the question you ask, I will repeat, as I’ve said more times than I can think- there are NO credible cases in which persons have acquired HIV through performance of oral sex- none!!.  The chance that you will be the first is ridiculously low.  You are more likely to be hit by lightening while reading my reply to you. DR HOOK

"HIV is not spread by masturbation, through oral sex, through kissing or other casual contact." DR HOOK

"There is no credible evidence that HIV is spread through oral sex, with or without the presence of cuts or blood in the persons mouth."- DR HOOK

"Oral sex. there is no evidence that HIV is spread through giving or receiving oral sex"- DR HOOK

"HIV is not spread through oral sex."  DR HOOK

"HIV is not spread through giving or receiving oral sex"   DR HOOK
