This is freaking me out.

Hi. I have read on the board that diarrhea by itself is not really a symptom of HIV infection. However on other sites (i.e. The Body) it states that diarrhea is the most common symptom of HIV infection. Do they mean within the six week period or further down the road? I am concerned as my wife has been having diarrhea for 2 days straight now (pure water), but no other symptoms (I assume stomach discomfort kind of goes hand in hand with diarrhea). Also, she got checked for any gallbladder issues yesterday and there weren't any. I am beyond terrified.

Does the diarrhea which comes within the first 6 weeks usually come with a bunch of other symptoms, or just 1 or 2?

Thanks.

Sorry. I should also add that she was on top of me, and this why I think I do not remember seeing a condom. However about a week after the incident I called her, very scared, and she said she always uses condoms, even for oral, and that she was HIV free. She also said that the only way I am going to calm down is to test to prove it. I felt pretty good about how confidant she was, but then this happened with my wife and I am freaked out.

what ever the risk was it doesnt matter now, in a few hours you will have your result, in any risk the odds remains on your side by far, it seems that your wife have some bacterial infection in her stomach, it would be good to take her to a doctor to evaluate and treat her, its not ARS what she is experiencing but she does need some treatment to whatever she has.

At lunch I will buy some beers so we can celebrate your negative result,

Good luck again

I am actually getting tested this afternoon. I am so worried. I am trying not to panic, but all I can see is how I have ruined my family.

Anyway, I thank you for the support.

Risk was condom slippage (I was insertive) upon withdrawl of a TS worker. Thing is, I can't even remember using a condom, however I do remember her taking it out to use and saying that it was sticking out of her rectum. However at no point did I actually see any condom. I know very stupid on my part.

Thanks again.

Thanks for your comments. Just another quick question. She has actually had some . problems for about 5 days now (1st day-bad headache, severe nausea,,some diarrhea, some loose stools (pale colour), and cold for intermittment periods throughout the day; day 2-more of the same in terms of stools, but not really a headache, and much less severe nausea, but some stomach pain; day 3-barely any nausea, a little stomach pain, but more diarrhea and loose stool(pale colour) ; day 4-bad watery diarrhea throughout the day (pale colour) and bad gas; day 5 watery diarrhea normal colour) and bad gas).

If it were HIV would there be such a varied amount of extremities (i.e. pure diarrhea appreared 3 days after varied stool consistencies), or would everything have shown up at the same time, stayed the same, and then all left at the same time?

Sorry for the panic and thanks a bunch.

At what time would you get the rapid test? go and get it at 10 weeks it would be 99% accurate, and then you will be able to forget about this, we`ll be waiting for your results.

Good luck

Fever is the most common infection and the ARS period is 2 -4 weeks not 6.  Its hard to tell only 50% of the people out there get ARS symptoms,  50% get no symptoms at all though it usually comes with other things.  What was your risk?

confused, does she know that you are concerned about this ? She most likely has some type of stomach virus . diarrhea is a symtom of 100s upon 100s of diffrent illnesses.

Then you dont read well, this is Drs frascino answer about ARS

Fever 96%, enlarge lymph nodes 74%, sore throat 70%, rash 70%, muscle aches 54%, diarrhea 32%, headache 32%, nausea and vomiting 27%, enlarged liver/spleen 14%, weight loss 13%, thrush 12%, neurologic symptoms 12%. Remember, however, that symptoms, even all of the above listed symptoms, do not equal HIV disease. There are many illnesses that can cause these symptoms. The only way to know if you've contracted HIV is to get tested.

And those symptoms only appeared in 50%-60% of infected people. and 2-4 weeks after infection,
