Thrush question???

by worried826, Apr 04, 2008 03:17PM
I performed unprotected oral sex on a girl almost 2 weeks ago and 8 days later I developed the white coating in my mouth. She did have a yeast infection too that I was not aware of until later. I went to the doctor and as soon as he saw my tounge he asked me if i was involed with someone sexually recently, to which I responded yes. He gave me a shot, anti biotic pills, and some special mouthwash and said it should clear up.

I am really freaked out about this since I looked on the internet and it says thrush can be a sign of HIV. The last time I was tested was a year ago. My anxiety is kicking in really bad and I havent been able to eat or function properly all week, which is making me feel worse, plus I read that stress and bad nutrition can cause thrush as well and right now I am extremely stressed and have not been eating at all really. I felt fine before all of this started happening. Any advice would be helpful.

hi worried,
i've read throughout the forum that oral sex on female w/no blood present is low-risk, can anybody else add to that,..is that true?...i'm sure you'll be ok worried, i would get tested for everything though if it makes you feel better,..i would.

by worried826, Apr 04, 2008 03:37PM
Yeah this sucks because the more I read about HIV signs and everything the worse i start to feel, its like my mind is playing tricks on me. I felt fine last weekend and evr since I got that thrush and read about it I have started feeling very anxious and miserable.

by Teak, Apr 04, 2008 03:41PM
Thrush is not HIV specific and anyone can get thrush at any time. If you haven't  been diagnosed by a doctor as having thrush then more than likely you don't have thrush.

by worried826, Apr 04, 2008 03:59PM
Well he didnt actually tell me I had thrush, he did say I had some bacteria and fungus that was sexually related in there and he gave me antibiotics for it. I am just really worried about this whole thing.

So you think the thrush or whatever it is can be caused anytime? If so that would alleviate much of my worry. Its just scares me when i google it and all I really see is a connection between it and hiv.

by Teak, Apr 04, 2008 04:58PM
Have no idea what would alleviate your worry. You didn't have a risk.

So what is the story with thrush then? Is it something that you can just get and is not associated with HIV at all?

by snippets69, Apr 04, 2008 11:34PM
If you want to learn about thrush, google "thrush".  There's not even a close to realistic chance you got HIV.

I did google it and thats why I was worried about it, it says that people with weak immune systems such as people with HIV get it.I dont think my immune syatem is weak at all though, I never get sick. I guess there are other resons like maybe me drinking a lot of beer or smoking or my bad eating habits. I am just worried sick about this whole thing and it is really getting in the way of my normal life this week, I havent been able to stomach any food or get a good nights sleep which is compounding the situation in my mind.

by worried826, Apr 04, 2008 11:42PM
I have bad anxiety as it is without all this going on so it is really bad when I actually have something to worry about.

by Teak, Apr 05, 2008 06:26AM
Well you don't have HIV to worry about.

Hopefully, by coincidence i went to my army reserve drill weekend today and it is that time of the year when we get immunizations and bloodwork so Ill know for sure next week. Good thing though because my nerves are a wreck and I want to put this past me, this anxiety and not eating or sleeping is really taking a toll on me physically.

by worried826, Apr 05, 2008 05:07PM
Everyone tells me I have cyberchondia, the internet version of hypochondria. lol.

Almost no STD is spread by cunnilingus and there has never been a reported case of transmission of HIV through this route.

Thrush is very common in the general population and does not indicate HIV . In advanced AIDS, you can get severe thrush ( oropharyngeal candidiasis) but you dont  have it.

So as they say, "move on "  and enjoy your life

by Teak, Apr 05, 2008 06:26PM
STDs can and have been documented from giving cunnilingus.

Herpes is probably the biggest STD risk during oral sex
Chlamydia and gonorrhea can infect your throat
HPV can be passed during oral sex, but it is rare. HPV has been found on vocal chords

Maybe it was one of those, the doctor didnt actually tell me what it was, he just looked in my mouth, took a culture swapping, came back and asked me if I was with someone sexually and I said yes. Then he gave me a antibiotic shot, azithromycin pills, and mouthwash and sent me on my way and said it would clear up and ill be ok soon.

by worried826, Apr 05, 2008 06:39PM
It was kind of comical how non-chalant the doc was about the whole thing while i was so damn nervous.

by worried826, Apr 06, 2008 04:59PM
Ok I went back to the doc since my white stuff on my tounge didnt clear up yet after 5 days and the doc gave me a stronger med but said it already cleared up a lot. I had a slight temperature 99.3 (probably because I was in the sun all damn day playing army today)

Now I am back to being extremely frightened again and feeling horrible. I talked to the doc about it and he said its a fungal infection and that some girls just dont keep it clean down there and all it takes is a few licks and you can get it in your mouth. I cant believe I am all anxious again, and the girl even had an HIV test a few weeks ago too since shes going in the army so she should be fine. I feel like I am imagining all the symptoms of the first stages of HIV now since I had the slight temperature.

Any advice?

by Teak, Apr 06, 2008 05:01PM
As you've been told you do not contract HIV from oral vaginal sex.

Yeah I know but then sometimes i think about if maybe one of my last hiv tests was wrong or something, its weird and I know it sounds nuts but i cant help it my mind just starts to think this stuff and imgaime things.

Hopefully this stupid oral junk goes away with this last dose of meds, everytime I look at my mouth in the mirror I start to panic. I guess its a good sign since the doc said it was already getting better.

worried 826

your right your mind does play tricks. i do the same all the time and it does cause you to become ill.
try not to worry

by worried826, Apr 06, 2008 05:14PM
What is your take on what the doc said about that you can get the white mouth stuff from oral sex?

by worried826, Apr 06, 2008 05:20PM
Or let me ask you this, how long after infection would thrush occur?

by iceman81, Apr 06, 2008 05:33PM
the symptom you describe is not an primary indicator of hiv. symptoms cannot tell whether you have hiv. (i used to go on internet read up on something and convince myself i had that condition.

white stuff could be anything as Teak mentioned. did u get a white spot on tongue like a tiny blister?

by worried826, Apr 06, 2008 06:00PM
No its a white coating on my tounge, the doc told me it was fungus/bacteria from cunnilingus.

by Teak, Apr 06, 2008 06:05PM
Having a white tongue off and on is normal. You can usually brush it off with a tooth brush. If it were thrush, you can brush it off and it usually bleeds. Having thrush as long as you have stated would have went to your esophagus and you would be in serious pain when drinking, eating or swallowing.

by worried826, Apr 06, 2008 06:09PM
The doc diagnosed it as oral caningitis (spelling) but its not painful at all and it hasnt bled even when I scrape and brush it and he said its starting to go away since last time he saw me.

by Teak, Apr 06, 2008 06:21PM
Did your doctor do a microscopic examination of tissue from a lesion to confirm it is thrush (oral candida)? Unless you have it confirmed it may not be thrush at all. It's not that easy to confirm visually. All persons have oral candida to a degree but which is managed by other microrganisms in the mouth. If one has used antibiotic recently that can wipe out the good microganisms that controls thrush and you get an outbreak in that manner.

by worried826, Apr 06, 2008 06:25PM
All i know is that he took a swap and he put it in some liquid and I guess looked for a reaction.

by worried826, Apr 06, 2008 06:26PM
I mean what the hell else could it be?

by worried826, Apr 06, 2008 06:27PM
My tounge is ugly right now and I just want it to go away. This entire episode is just really scaring the **** out of me. I have bad anxiety and some hypochondria and this episode really takes the cake. I have never been so scared.

by skysthelimitjp, Apr 06, 2008 09:11PM
do you have asthma? do you use an inhaler? i've heard inhalers can cause this...can anyone confirm this?

by worried826, Apr 07, 2008 05:32AM
To: skysthelimitjp
No none of that.

by worried826, Apr 08, 2008 11:38AM
Anyone have any other thoughts/ideas?

How long after exposure do HIV positive people typically experience thrush anyway?

by worried826, Apr 09, 2008 01:43PM
Anyone?
