Time Frame Q

by mnw1982, Oct 31, 2007 06:10AM
I posted a thread in the Doc forum asking how reliable my 4 week negative HIV results were (I had unprotected vaginal and anal w/ straight male) and he said it was 90%.   Then i read in another question asked by someone else about the accuracy of a 4 week negative result.  The other forum doctor (name escapes me) said most tests won't pick up antibody for atleast 6 weeks.  Why are the two docs giving out differing info?

If you want a conclusive negative result, you'll need to test out to 3 months.

I did not see the reply from the Dr. or the second Dr. but I would question if this is exactly what the second Dr. said (won't pick up antibodies for *at least 6 weeks*).  I think you misread that but I would like to see the reply.

So, if you want a detailed answer rather than the generic test at 3 months response, then please post the replies you received.

Regardless, I have yet to see any real HIV expert say they have seen a 4 week negative test turn positive with no other exposures involved.

Latest from recent replies concerning testing ,  first from :Dr. HOOK

"I would suggest you get an HIV test (just once) at about eight weeks after your exposures"

This one from Dr HHH

"If you have had a negative antibody test at least 6 weeks after your last possible exposure, it proves you don't have HIV"
