To: In the Nick of Time...others also

I just want to say thank you so much for offering that insight.  I appreciate everyone's advice on here but since you and I seem to be more in the same boat, I have taken yours to heart because I know how you feel.  It's so hard knowing that I did something like that to him, but then I start to feel mad b/c he's the one who ended it and now I have to be the one to feel guilty.  I do feel better that I got some courage and went to get tested, just so I would not pass anything to him.  Just to be sure I went to test at 4 months after exposure because my anxiety was kicking in again...I was so happy to receive another negative test, but now my anxiety is getting worse. I think its because any time he feels a little under the weather I start to think HIV automatically and that I feel so guilty that I start to believe I am the one who did that to him, disregarding my negative tests all together.  I even found myself asking the guy I slept with if he was negative and he told me so many times not to worry and that he's ok.

I know you said that your body starts to make antibodies right away, so how come people with immune problems don't test at the same time as everyone else if the higher sensitivity tests are now out?

I'm not sure if you mentioned this in another thread but do you know when the last time was that someone took longer than 3 months to test positive?

Thank you for your support.

I forget to ask you....if I was tested in November 2006, does that mean I received the newest testing procedure of the ELISA? I just want to make sure I got tested with the 3rd generation.

We went through the exact situation.
My bf left me... and started seeing a new girl. At that point i was even considering my health, i was to busy trying to find ways to stop thinking about him, and completed disregarded my health in every way possible. Sure enough he came back to me, and thats when my HIV fears and guilt kicked in. PS. i did not tell him about the incident. I dont want to freak him out, and plus these were the consequences of his actions in some way.

To adress your first question, invest in a biology book. do you kno what antibodies are? Think antibiotics... they attempt to fight off the virus... so in someone with a comprised immune system their body doesnt function properly and they do not produce adequete amounts of antibodies to attempt to fight off the HIV.

In a normel human being, aka you and I, we product enough of those antibodies within weeks.

Next, i do not know the last time someone tested positive after 3 monthes, probably because it hasnt happened within the last 5 years. Hence, the 3 month cut off. Dr. H and many other specialists and HIV experts havent even seen anybody sonconvert after 6 weeks. So after 3 monthes who knows... and if so like i said people with deprived immune systems.

So forget about science ans stats... YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO ME. You should be past that stage... you need to FOCUS STRONGLY on you're MENTAL HEALTH.

a) negative thoughts lead to negative thoughts, and thats why u find yourself spinning around in this HIV rut. So if you eve feel ill, and attribute you're sickness to HIV all you're other negative thoughts will come out, such was 4 monthes enough? was i tested wrong? ALL those irrational thoughts which are just plain STUPID.

b) postive thoughts lead to other positive thoughts. Such as, i tested HIV negative at 4 monthes!! =)     Which leads to most people test postive by 6 weeks, or 3 monthes... so IM PERFECTLY FINE, and i know that because of the docs advise and so on....

c) like i stated before once you're guilt is adressed you will find yourself less often thinking about HIV

d)You seem to just be attributing everything to this disease and thats why you are having problems...

e) Stop thinking so egocentric... you are a human being like everybody else in this world... just how most people test pos by 6 monthes , you would have as well. You tested neg because you are

f) think kristin cavallari... I'M OVER IT!! just think that over and over... its so over, and im so over it.. that phase is over...

Testing Equipment ... not to sure, it depends on where you live

However, thats why CDC sticks to the conclusive 3 monthes as well, becuase they take other tests older and newer into consideration... so the CDC guidelines apply to all HIV tests.

My point is by 4 monthes regardless of the age of the testign equipment antibodies would have been detected.

AKA most places use newer equipment, thats why DOC H states that 6 weeks is fine for most people.

Thank you again for all your help.  I cant believe how similar our situation is and im so happy that i found someone who is on the same boat as me to help me with this hell.  I will be taking your advice and I am already starting to feel better about it.  I keep telling myself that 3 months is recommended and I tested at 4...and I try to think rationally. Well, thanks again and If you have anything else to add feel free  :-)
